External Description:JOB SUMMARY:
The Electrical Systems Architect is responsible for planning, guiding, and implementing consistent power, information, and controls methodologies across Polaris' Off-Road vehicle portfolios, working closely with lead product line electrical engineers to ensure a planful, consistent approach to electrical systems engineering and design across platforms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Defines and generates a system architecture strategy for vehicle power and information flow across platforms that meets the needs of future off-road vehicles
Establishes and manages a strategy for increased vehicle complexity from a design standpoint, specifically with a mindset of managing combinations of features and options alongside development and manufacturing complexity
Establishes a framework and development methodology for increased electrical system analysis and simulation work throughout the design phase, including recommending methods and tools to improve analytical rigor throughout the design process
Establishes guidelines and templates for physical and functional partititioning of vehicle level functions, and generates a forward-looking plan for the distribution of features, circuits, and I/O by vehicle platform over a 3 year window
Correlates existing models and analytical tools to vehicle test data to ensure architectural and design principles adequately meet the needs of customers
Creates subsystem level architectures to support advanced EE feature development. Examples include areas such as stability control, vehicle controls, transmission controls, and other technologies, wherein creative elements of both design and implementation are required to bring new technology to life
Explores and develop long term alternative architecture concepts including new networking and communication technologies, power generation methods and functional control concepts applicable to off-road vehicles
REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
B.S. in Mechanical/Electrical/Systems Engineering or closely related curriculum required
M.S. in Mechanical/Electrical/Systems Engineering or closely related curriculum preferred
10 years minimum related experience in an O.E. product development environment
Understanding and experience with electromechanical components including sensors, actuators, controllers, circuits, calibration environments, data acquisition, etc.
Knowledge in developing vehicle control systems algorithms
Familiarity with CAN bus operation and the SAE J1939 standards
Experience using Matlab / Simulink and model-based engineering tools
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work with domestic and international technology partners
PREFERRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Experience with Systems Engineering processes and procedures
Experience managing complex vehicle architectures
Experience with tools used for the modeling and simulation of electrical systems
Experience guiding and implementing systems according to DFMEA and HARA activities
Experience with system specifications and a general understanding of how to translate customer-facing requirements to technical solutions
Experience with systems and software architectural requirements
Understanding of real-time control systems and associated supporting structure to ensure reliability and robustness of the implementation of control systems
