Opportunities are available in D429 for electrical system and component engineers. Successful candidates will be joining a strong and experienced engineering team in an exciting and fast-paced environment focused on designing power distribution, reactor plant, steam plant, and electric plant systems and equipment for the new COLUMBIA Class submarines.

D429 offers a unique engineering opportunity to work in any of a wide variety of electrical engineering concentrations (power generation and distribution, steam-plant and reactor-plant instrumentation & control, project management, etc.). D429 is comprised of a mix of experienced, mid-level, and entry-level engineers that focus on team building and knowledge sharing.

Successful candidates will be responsible for all aspects of their assigned systems or components, which includes:

  • Learning and understanding system/component operational needs

  • Defining and meeting functional and detailed requirements

  • Performing required calculations and modeling

  • Selecting standard components and subcomponents

  • Overseeing development of system/component drawings

  • Supporting development of associated technical documentation, including manuals, operating instructions, repair parts lists, preventative maintenance specifications, etc.

  • Managing all system and component interfaces including electrical, structural, piping, and mechanical

  • Supporting 3D model development and arrangement of systems and components

  • Overseeing subcontractor designs, manufacturing, testing, and qualification

  • Obtaining customer approval of designs and requirements via formal correspondence

  • Supporting the ongoing construction, testing, and time critical troubleshooting for the COLUMBIA Class submarine at the Electric Boat Quonset Point and Groton shipyards

VIEW JOBS 11/12/2022 12:00:00 AM 2023-02-10T00:00 <p>Responsibilities for this Position</p><p>D428 CLB Electrical Interior Communications System Engineer</p><p>US-CT-Groton</p><p>Job ID: 2022-7002</p><p>Type: Full-Time</p><br><h4>of Openings:</h4><br><p>5</p><p>Category: Engineering</p><p>EB Groton Shipyard</p><p>Overview</p><p>Department 428 Electrical Systems is looking for highly motivated entry-level engineers to the fill engineering positions in the Data, Voice, and Auxiliary Systems group.</p><ul><li>The D428 Data, Voice, and Auxiliary Communication Systems Group is a COLUMBIA Program dedicated team responsible for the development of Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&amp;E) interior communications data and integrated voice systems, and sensors. Data systems include the development of stand-alone systems for entertainment and training, access control and indication, weapons shipping indication and alarm and emergency alert message indication and alarm. The integrated voice system combines digital telephony, public address, wireless and sound powered telephone for administrative, tactical, and casualty control communication throughout the ship and between the ship and shore while in-port. The auxiliary group designs the secondary propulsion system, controllers, and galley and habitability systems.</li></ul><p>Technical tasks include:</p><ul><li><p>Developing and managing hardware, software, cybersecurity, and interface requirements and specifications</p></li><li><p>Developing procurement specifications and subcontractor statements of work</p></li><li><p>Identifying, documenting and coordination of system/component interfaces</p></li><li><p>Integration of system/component into ship and support of ship arrangement (layout)</p></li><li><p>Developing wiring diagrams and schematics in support of ship construction drawings</p></li><li><p>Selecting components for use within system/component designs</p></li><li><p>Developing system/component test procedures and support qualification testing</p></li><li><p>Developing system/component development plans and schedules</p></li><li><p>Electrical support of generator and regulator development</p></li><li><p>Subcontractor management including interaction with program office, contracts, purchasing and supplier quality organizations</p></li><li><p>Supporting system/component logistics documentation including technical manuals, ship system manuals and operating instructions</p></li><li><p>Developing written correspondence, technical papers and presentations for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)</p></li></ul><p>Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Please ask for more details on how it applies to this opening during discussions with the department.</p><p>Responsibilities</p><p>Experience and/or knowledge in one or more of the following areas are preferred:</p><ul><li><p>Military system or component development for Naval Platforms</p></li><li><p>Project management and systems engineering practices and principles including earned value management, configuration management, and requirements management.</p></li><li><p>Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)</p></li><li><p>Telephone/announcing systems and components</p></li><li><p>Wireless</p></li><li><p>Cybersecurity</p></li><li><p>Sensors and controls</p></li><li><p>Occasional travel will be required for these positions.</p></li></ul><p>Qualifications</p><p>Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related technical bachelors degree with electrical experience required. Previous Navy experience will also be considered. The candidate must be knowledgeable in electrical and electronic engineering fundamentals.</p><p>Candidates must be highly motivated, possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must be able to multi-task, work in teams and possess skills that permit independent functioning without significant oversight.
