Summary of Role

The Electrical Safety Program Manager facilitates organizational compliance with a variety of EHS-related federal, state, and local regulations such as: OSHA, EPA, NESC, ISO and NFPA. The role has a core function of managing field electrical safety. To that end, the role manages HV risk mitigation plans, training and qualification programs associated with electrical safety and ensuring continuous improvement of these safety programs. This role is responsible for the development and delivery of key elements of the NovaSource Power Environmental, Health, Safety, and Technical training program, working within the EHS team and reports to the VP of EHS.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees electrical safety program, including the NSPS solar technician electrical qualification and training programs

  • Oversees arc flash safety program, and initiatives associated with arc flash safety program improvements.

  • Leads the development of substations operations and maintenance qualification and training programs

  • Leads the development of advanced high voltage maintenance qualification and training programs

  • Leads initiatives to improve electrical switching and communications processes

  • Assists with the development of substations technical work procedures

  • Collaborates with Balance of Plant team to continually improve electrical safety practices

  • Assists with other EHS-related projects and initiatives

  • Supports EHS, Field and Technical teams as needed

  • Work closely with members of Senior Leadership on training needs from a field level.

  • Develop training calendar and aid Managers with maintaining training certifications to ensure all employees are current on training and qualifications.

  • Manage the NSPS employee Training Matrix as well as the Contractor Training Matrix.

  • Independent problem-solving with complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating very complex issues to EHS Leadership and senior operations management.

Requirements

  • An ideal candidate would be an MV/HV electrician with senior-level O&M technician experience in the field with utility-scale renewable energy power plants (can be a former journeyman lineman, substation switching, or electrical engineer with utility scale power plant experience).

  • Experience with rooftop safety, aerial lift, scissor lift, forklift, and defensive driving training

  • Preferred
  • Must be a team player and willing to work with various business units and the global EHS team; with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience managing and maintaining training records - recordkeeping experience.

  • Fluent in English (reading and writing); multi-lingual is a plus

  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and follow through on deliverables.

  • Must be able to work independently and is a self-motivator.

  • Ability to work in a quick-moving, multi-time zone environment.

  • Strong organizational and technical writing skills, with special attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SalesForce, and SharePoint; Docebo proficiency preferred.

  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills are preferred.

  • The position requires travel, more than 30% of the time.

  • The position is in the Chandler, AZ area. Full time office presence required when not in the field.

Education

  • Preference to candidates who have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, occupational, health and safety, education or similar, OR the equivalent level of direct industry experience.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NFPA 70e Trainer or equivalent industry recognized professional certification preferred.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in the renewable energy industry
  • 10 years or more is preferred.
  • Will consider powerline industry experience either as a lineman, or electrical engineer.

  • Proven track record in training theory in the areas of Electrical Safety, Qualified Electrical Workers, Convertor/Invertor, Substation Maintenance, PV safety, and EH&S courses

Physical Demands

  • May need to sit or stand for long periods of time.

  • May need to use ladders, bend, twist, and lift up to 25 lbs.

  • May need to travel to the field and wear PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed boots, hard hats, fall protection, and other PPE as site conditions may require).

  • Utilize ladders, aerial lifts, or work platforms; must be able to work from heights.
