  • Assess, define and document system/subsystem requirements and propose designs

  • Design, evaluate & investigate electrical systems & components, applying knowledge of electronics, software, manufacturing processes and materials to meet system/subsystem requirements

  • Lead and document design reviews on existing and proposed designs

  • Develop necessary system microcontroller firmware to interact with higher level system software

  • Ability to develop FPGA and other programmable logic devices in VHDL and/or Verilog

  • Perform measurements using laboratory instruments, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function/signal generators, power supplies and multimeters

  • Identify problems, propose and test mitigations and drive continuous improvement

  • Collaborate on manufacturing test equipment, such as a board level test hardware/software; create specifications and test equipment, jigs & fixtures

  • Facilitate progress on projects by training and guiding technical resources, create best-practices and work instructions

  • Write and execute and/or manage V&V protocols and reports

  • Responsibility for IEC60601 EMC & Electrical Safety compliance and verification testing at system level

  • Identify risks and review risk analysis

  • Create and/or manage incoming inspection documents and fixtures as required

  • Release schematics, BOMs and manufacturing documentation designed in OrCAD, including the release of new components

  • Solicit, analyze, and document engineering requirements. Maintain and update the requirements and design documentation throughout the entire system life cycle. Perform requirements traceability to ensure proper allocation of system requirements to subsystems

  • Create experimental platforms to accurately measure performance of both current and proposed solutions

  • Create and manage Change Orders to complete Design History File documentation

  • Review and sign off for Engineering on Change Orders

  • Work with Quality department on NCMRs and CAPA requirements

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated success in developing electronic medical systems working in an ISO 13485 regulated quality system environment

  • Experience in design of embedded systems including digital, mixed signal, low level analog and power supply design

  • Experience in developing system firmware and HW/SW interface in cooperation with software teams

  • Experience taking a system through IEC60601 EMC & Electrical Safety testing & verification process

  • Experience managing external/contract design & manufacturing resources

  • Solid understanding of common measurement and test equipment and methods

  • Working knowledge of popular microcontroller development environments

  • Ability to read, interpret and edit electronic circuit schematics & PCB documentation

  • Analysis, design, simulation, rapid prototyping, and debug of new electrical circuits and sub-systems

  • Hardware/Firmware design and system/software integration, testing, and data analysis

  • Working familiarity with state of the art electronics design tools such as schematic capture (Cadence/OrCAD, Altium), simulation (PSpice, Multisim) as well as system/software tools (MATLAB, LabVIEW) and programmable logic tools (VHDL/Verilog)

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision for most tasks knowing what needs to be done and how to do it

  • Good documentation, recordkeeping and data collection skills with attention to detail

  • Must be able to understand job duties and responsibilities, have the necessary skills/knowledge and be willing and able to continue learning and growing within the field.

  • Must be skilled at managing a significant workload and obtaining positive results, taking on additional responsibility and managing priorities as needed.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate, punctual reports/information, as required and thoroughly share information with others. Must be able to read, write and speak effectively

  • Capable of creating and following realistic plans, goal setting, resource management, contingency planning, coordinating and cooperating with others


BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 to 8+ years of experience in the field of electronics, medical electronics preferred; or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Masters degree in electrical/electronic engineering preferred.
