Job Introduction Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customers mission. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

The Fire and Building Safety Division is looking for an outstanding Electrical Plans Reviewer/Inspector who has the knowledge and experience in commercial plan review and field electrical inspection along with great communication and teamwork skills. As an Electrical Plans Reviewer/Inspector your duties are to conduct reviews of construction plans for new/existing buildings, renovations, and remodeling work. This position requires the plans reviewer to conduct reviews of construction documents and field installations, apply and explain code issues while working with registered design professionals to enforcing multiple provisions of National Electrical Code and California Building Codes. Team members must be reliable, self-starters, and able to mediate problems to meet the necessary requirements of respective codes and standards used within LLNL.

This position may require the successful candidate have the flexibility to work overtime, shift and or weekends to accomplish goals. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.

Job Description

Essential Duties

  • Review electrical and associated commercial building construction plans.

  • Conduct reviews of construction documents for new and existing buildings, renovations, and remodeling work.

  • Conduct electrical inspections of work in progress and file inspection reports as required.

  • Apply and explain technical codes issues while working with registered design professionals to enforce multiple provisions of the National Electrical Code and associated provisions of the California Building Code.

  • Work effectively with other team members to resolve problems and achieve goals.

  • Resolve and mediate problems to meet the necessary requirements of respective codes and standards within LLNL.

  • Interact and communicate with all levels of personnel, including management, construction subcontractors, internal and external clients and customers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelors Degree in Architecture or Engineering, or 5 to 10 years professionally responsible electrical construction field related experience or must have at least one (1) year experience reviewing electrical plans or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of the applicable National Electric Code and related regulations.

  • Demonstrated effective verbal communication skills, and advanced customer service and interpersonal skills, including ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, internal and external clients and customers, and construction subcontractors.

  • Must be reliable and a self-starter, with ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, overtime, shift and or weekends, and work effectively on a variety of concurrent activities with tight deadlines.

  • Ability to become a Certified Electrical Inspector under the International Code Council (ICC)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Drivers License.

  • Ability to work at Site 300.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Licensed Registered Design Professional or current certification as an ICC Plans Examiner or the ability to obtain certification within (12) months from date of hire.

  • Possess a California C-10 Electrical Contractors License.

  • Knowledge of California Building and Electrical Codes, and/or National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes.

  • Knowledge of the following electrical systems: 15kV and 600V power distribution, 15kV-480/277V distribution transformers, switchgear, switchboards and panel boards, uninterruptible power supplies, engine generator sets, automatic transfer switches, lighting design, motor control and lighting protection, and experience reading and understanding electrical design drawings.

Special Requirements

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-employment drug test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

Anticipated Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.
