  • Supervise the activities of the department in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws

  • Represent the District by registering with City of Dallas and other municipalities as the Master Electrician on record for the Dallas Independent School District to obtain required permits and inspections

  • Serve as the representative for the District's Electrical Services to the City of Dallas and Dallas County, to energy delivery and service providers (ONCOR, TXU, Reliant, etc.) and electrical materials vendors and suppliers

  • Serve as the department's primary contact for emergency response to electrical calls from facilities throughout the district; provide follow up with project status and resolution to senior management. Subject to 24 hour call outs in electrical outage emergencies

  • Manage and lead the daily operations of the department, the electrical services crews in the four quadrants and the bucket truck and personnel lift crews

  • Review and approve biweekly payroll for the department including overtime requests

  • Accomplish human resource objectives for the department by interviewing, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and enforcing District policies and departmental procedures

  • Manage the procurement of goods and services, replacement parts, and repair contracts

  • Prepare and administer the annual departmental budget, analyze and review budgetary and financial data, and monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with established guidelines

  • Keep abreast of local, state, and federal regulations related to the National Electrical Code and advise appropriate personnel of regulation changes affecting the District

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with codes and legal regulations

  • Employee may be required to respond to after hour/emergency call outs, be placed on an emergency call out rotation and flex work hours to accommodate job completion

  • Comply with District policies and procedures

  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned

  • All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate

  • High School diploma or USA equivalency

  • Must have a valid Master Electrician License from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

  • Eight (8) years of directly related experience in the electrical trade, including installation and maintenance of electrical systems, main distribution systems, panel boards and lighting systems

  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision

  • Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills to provide work direction to electricians on a daily basis

  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills required for planning, submitting, inspecting, evaluating, and completing electrical work

  • Demonstrated skills in accurate record keeping and computer data base management, including work orders and material procurement

  • Demonstrated computer skills to interface with District software such as SchoolDude, ERP/Oracle and Microsoft Office

  • Must maintain a valid Texas driver license and driving record that meets District standards

  • Must pass a Dallas ISD random drug test

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, walking, pushing, and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying; some stooping, bending, and kneeling; limited exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job.
