Description
Performs basic to complex skilled technical work installing, calibrating, monitoring, and troubleshooting industrial instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and electrical systems for the Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility and pump stations, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under general direction.
Examples of Duties
Calibrates various industrial instrumentation systems including flow, level, pressure, and temperature, etc.
Troubleshoot problems and repair instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment including, but not limited to, motors, motor control circuits, main switchgear, lighting, generators, centrifuge equipment, incinerator, PLC troubleshooting, etc.
Installs new instrument, control, and electrical equipment including running conduit, pulling wire, and making terminations.
Performs integration, monitoring, installation, and troubleshooting using PLC's and SCADA systems.
Performs preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment, instruments, controls, and PLC's.
Maintains full operation of pump stations; inspects sewer pumping stations and related equipment for proper operations; troubleshoots and repairs equipment as needed.
Maintains records and reports on all equipment and calibrations including updates of schematics and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) drawings.
May be required to work outside normal work hours in on-call and emergency situations.
E & I Tech IV and Sr. E & I Tech may supervise assigned staff in the absence of supervisor; assign, direct, train, and inspect the work of staff; coach or counsel staff.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
Licenses and/or Certifications:
Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Instrumentation certification upon hire.
Obtain 24 - 40 hours of electrical and/or instrumentation specific (ex. Schematics & diagrams, Arc flash, electrical troubleshooting, PLCs, process control troubleshooting, Generators and emergency power, etc.) City, and Safety training.
Senior E & I Tech will be required to provide Electrical Journeyman's card upon hire.
Senior E & I Tech will be required to obtain necessary continuing education units to maintain licensure.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment associated with the installation, calibration, and maintenance of industrial instrumentation.
Knowledge of the standard practices and terminology of the electrical trade.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required in the work.
Skills:
Skill in installing, calibrating, operating, troubleshooting and repairing wastewater instrumentation and electrical equipment.
Analytical, quantitative, testing and systems designing skills.
Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, and schematics.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
Ability to diagnose improper operation of equipment or devices and to take proper corrective or remedial action.
Ability to complete records and reports.
