Primary Responsibilities

HDR is looking for an Electrical/Instrumentation & Controls Section Manager to join their nationally ranked team of power professionals in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The primary role of the Electrical / Instrumentation & Controls (EE/I&C) Section Manager is as a Senior Power Generation Electrical Engineer supporting design, Owner's Engineer (OE) and consulting assignments for Clients; the secondary role (but equally important), is personnel management with responsibility for operations of the EE/I&C Section, which encompasses; staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.

For Client assignments:

  • Provide electrical expertise in support of consulting projects; perform design calculations and prepare deliverables in support of design projects; perform design reviews for Owners Engineer projects.

  • Perform project management duties when required.

  • In addition to project assignments, this position includes management of the operational activities of the Ann Arbor Power Generation office's EE/I&C Section include department staffing, hour budgets and quality control.

  • Monitor project budgets and staff workload balance for the EE/I&C section.

  • Schedule and coordinate all work performed inside the Ann Arbor office's EE/I&C section.

  • Establish work priorities for EE/I&C Section/staff. Monitor scope of work and scope changes.

  • Facilitate communication with other discipline groups.

  • Conduct interviews, hire new staff and provide new employee training and mentoring.

Develop data acquisition and control software to be implemented on rapid prototyping embedded systems for use with automotive systems. Develop low-level hardware drivers in C. Implement custom data acquisition and control modules in Verilog. Develop applications in MATLAB Simulink. Perform wiring, soldering, and electronic troubleshooting as required. Work directly with clients to understand system requirements; work within a team to define and develop customized system features. Work as part of a dynamic team to rapidly bring concept to reality by leveraging existing designs and COTS technology. Manage multiple assignments concurrently with limited supervision. Education/Experience: Requires a BS degree in Computer Engineering (preferred), Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related. Advanced degrees demonstrating embedded system development is beneficial. Must have 0-5 years of experience. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Must have completed an academic project or have work experience in circuit analysis, analog/digital design, c programming for embedded systems, and hands-on software and electrical troubleshooting. Experience w/ C++, Python a plus. Familiarity with FPGAs, Verilog or VHDL is required; experience with Xilinx products helpful. Detailed knowledge of sensor and actuator conditioning and drive circuitry highly desirable. Experience with multithreaded programming and embedded RTOSs (especially QNX and/or real-time Linux) highly desirable. Prefer familiarity with IC engines and powertrain sensors and actuators; familiarity with automotive communication protocols a plus (CAN, LIN; OBD, UDS). Experience with a PCB CAD program is highly desirable (especially Alitum). Familiarity with source control (Git or Mercurial), software/hardware testing (e.g. regression testing, acceptance testing, TDD), software development process a plus. A valid/clear driver's license is required. This position requires passing the test. Special Considerations: Work assignment is in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
