Electrical Inspector

PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Electrical Inspector to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy.

The Electrical Equipment Inspector provides technical and maintenance support to operations, maintenance, turnaround, projects, and engineering for refinery equipment. The Electrical Equipment Inspector will work to improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance cost via investigation of failures, determination of root causes and completion of corrective actions. Electrical equipment includes MCCs, substations, motors, switch gear, overcurrent protection, grounding, wiring methods, power distribution, Universal Power Systems (UPS), battery systems, generators, and Motor Operated Valves. Voltages will range from 120Vac to 12Kv systems.


  • First point of contact for Operations & crafts when technical questions or issues with electrical equipment arise.

  • Assist in troubleshooting electrical equipment problems to understand probable cause of failure and notify operating team of actions to prevent reoccurrence

  • Perform routine Equipment Surveillance rounds to identify issues

  • Provide technical support on repairs including interfacing with vendors and visiting outside shops

  • Review monthly reliability data to identify issues and work with Engineer to recommend changes.

  • Assist in maintaining documentation including equipment history, Bad Actor lists, and Overhaul Reports

  • Provide operators and crafts with training on basic equipment knowledge to help better understand equipment operation.


  • High school diploma or GED

  • Journeyman Electrician level of experience

  • 3 years of industrial Electrical equipment experience

  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code, NFPA-70E (electrical safety in the workplace) and other electrical repair standards


  • 1 year of Electrical inspection experience in a refinery or similar industry

  • Experience with performance testing on various types of Electrical equipment

  • Experience with SAP, Excel, Word software


  • During occasional high maintenance events (TA, Project Execution, Overhauls) successful candidate may be required to work altered schedule over an extend period

  • Participate in department duty rotation program to provide off-hours technical support

VIEW JOBS 7/14/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-10-12T00:00 Job Description and Qualifications * $10,000 BONUS for highly qualified candidates Air Products, manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking high energy, self-starters to fill full time Instrument and Electrical Technician positions with on call responsibilities. This hourly position primarily supports our 2 Hydrogen Plants in Martinez, California located onsite at the PBF Refinery. The position will be for the Martinez location, but will provide as needed support at 2 other hydrogen plants located nearby in Martinez on refinery sites as well. You would be responsible to perform and/or supervise the inspection, repair, installation and modification of process controls, safety devices, analyzers, PLC's, field instrumentation and process monitoring equipment in the plants. You would also be responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of plant instrumentation and controls. This position requires some travel ~10% as needed to support other HYCO facilities as needed. The Technician's responsibilities include: * Technicians must be familiar with all equipment in plants served. A sampling of these devices includes transmitters, switches, analyzers, programmable controllers, proximity devices, level control systems, control valves, equipment and personnel safety systems, pay meter systems, and others. Within each category are a variety of pneumatic and electronic devices. * Technicians are also responsible for troubleshooting and working with Instrument Engineering Support to maintain distributed control systems. This is a most rapidly changing technical area and requires a high level of technical training. * Prepare and provide technical reports and enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation and information for equipment. Qualifications / Requirements: * High school diploma/equivalent * Minimum five years of experience with calibration and troubleshooting of industrial plant instrumentation and controls * Knowledge of PLC and DCS controls is a plus * Supervisory skills/experience a plus * Basic computer skills * SAP knowledge is desired * Ability to work: * In an industrial environment that includes climbing ladders and stairs, lifting-up to 50 lbs, working at heights and in confined spaces * Extended hours on short notice * In a team environment, with safety first as a primary focus * And to communicate effectively across technical, operations and maintenance line This role is a ladder position and advancement is possible based on experience and demonstrated competency.
