Job Summary

  • Troubleshoot analog/ digital/video circuits to a discrete component level.

  • Support engineering and manufacturing environment.

  • Make recommendations on processes to improve production output and reliability. May also be required to train personnel on new products.

  • Carry out testing as directed including: writing test plans, conducting testing, compiling data and generating reports on testing, etc. as required.

  • Must be able to support field related problems both over the phone and travel to customer site if necessary.

  • Ensure Engineering team leaders and others are adequately informed of current status and is aware of any obstructions to successful progression that cannot be effectively eliminated at the technician level.

  • Provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered before, during, and after processes.

  • Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments.

  • Install and maintain electrical control systems and solid state equipment.

  • Modify electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, and systems to correct functional deviations.

  • Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions, and record results.

  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and other personnel to identify, define, and solve developmental problems.

  • Build, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical instruments or testing equipment.

  • Analyze and interpret test information to resolve design-related problems.

  • Write commissioning procedures for electrical installations.

  • Prepare project cost and work-time estimates.

  • Evaluate engineering proposals, shop drawings and design comments for sound electrical engineering practice and conformance with established safety and design criteria, and recommend approval or disapproval.

  • Draw or modify diagrams and write engineering specifications to clarify design details and functional criteria of experimental electronics units.

  • Conduct inspections for quality control and assurance programs, reporting findings and recommendations.

  • Plan, schedule and monitor work of support personnel to assist supervisor.

  • Review existing electrical engineering criteria to identify necessary revisions, deletions or amendments to outdated material.

  • Plan method and sequence of operations for developing and testing experimental electronic and electrical equipment.

  • Visit customer sites to observe conditions impacting design and to identify solutions for electrical system design problems that arise during equipment operation.

Required Education and Experience

Qualifications include:

  • Two year degree in electronics or 5 years in related field.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience with video circuitry and analog/digital circuit design.

  • Field service experience with troubleshooting and or repair of electronic and mechanical components or systems.

  • Must have computer skills and ability to navigate a Windows environment and Microsoft office including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Must have minor mechanical assembly skills, use of hand tools and electrical crimp tools.

  • Must be able to use DMM, oscilloscope, function generator.

  • Familiar with analog and switching power supplies as well as buck and boost technology.

  • Must be familiar with motor control and motor drive circuits.

  • Troubleshooting and analysis skills to determine problems at a system level

  • Able to read schematics and system wiring diagrams.

  • Must be able to design, select components and build cable harness assemblies.

  • Must be able to draw schematics and wiring diagrams along with components and necessary BOMS.

  • Must be able to generate temporary documentation or redline drawings to support manufacturing changes.

  • Must be able to build and debug electronic prototypes.

  • Must have SMT soldering skills.

  • Must have ability to design and build test fixtures to support manufacturing environment

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Video test equipment use is a plus.

  • Altium, Orcad or other schematic capture program experience is a plus.

  • 4 Year Degree in electronics or related field is a plus.

Work Authorizations / Security Clearance / Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Post Offer Background check and drug screening required

Working Conditions / Work Schedule / Travel

  • Typically, 8AM 5PM Monday Friday

Physical Requirements

  • Lab Environment - ability to use computers and office equipment, light lifting and other physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions.

  • Must be able to work outside on occasion and around a sewer environment.

  • Must be able to grip and operate hand tools with a minimum of 50 in/lbs. of force

  • Must be able to grip fine contacts and wires with one hand and operate crimping tool with the other hand.

  • Must be able to see fine components and have manual dexterity to properly place and solder these components.

  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. for at least 15 feet.

  • Safety Glasses must be worn at all times when in the production areas.

  • Steel toe shoes must be worn at all times when in the production areas.
