Job Expectations:

As a student intern, you will perform duties that require professional training but little or no experience. You may be assigned, under close supervision, to simple engineering design work, such as preparing plans, cost estimates, and specifications. You may also perform routine field inspection and testing to check performance or conformity with plans and specifications. You will gain exposure to engineering work in various engineering fields (wastewater, water, electrical, construction management).

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing

  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables

  • Duties may also include field activities such as site investigations and electrical observations

  • Collect and record data and documentation

Position Requirements:

  • Candidate should be in the process of pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Experience and/or coursework in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance preferred

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite a plus (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred

  • Good written and verbal communication skills essential

  • Previous related internship experience a plus but not necessary

These projects include capital additions to the plant as well as the reverse engineering of mechanical components. This position will require 10 hours a week during the University semester (working around the students schedule), with the exception of working full time during school recess. Responsibilities: * Gain exposure to various tools, systems, and processes, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks * Participate in on-going learning and experience to develop internal and external customer interface skills, and equipment troubleshooting * Working in both an office and production environment * Self-manage projects throughout the organization * Develop time and budget management skills Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Proficient verbal and written communication skills with all levels of management and external vendors * Experience with either AutoCAD or SolidWorks required, knowledge of both a plus * Mechanical aptitude and common sense required as well as a safe and professional work ethic Education and/or Experience: * Upcoming Junior status, a plus, however Junior and Senior year students may apply Job Conditions: Work is performed primarily in the Facilities department (Engineering Building), but time will be spent in other Columbia Steel production areas and outdoors in all weather conditions. Will routinely bend, twist, kneel, walk, climb, and reach throughout the day. Will sit, stand, and walk for 1-10 hours per day. Work environment includes noise, fumes, dust, and inclement weather.
