Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery Services business unit currently has a new opportunity for an Senior Electrical Engineer in its Charlotte, North Carolina office.

Responsibilities

  • This position offers you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the detailed electrical design and project management of high voltage substation projects.

  • As a Substation Electrical Engineer, you will take an active role in project conceptualization, work planning, and project execution.

  • You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering issues.

  • As an Electrical Engineer, you will prepare reports that present technical and project information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.

  • Develop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers by way of S&L's systems of process and associated "Communities of Practice."

  • In addition, you may have the opportunity to travel to client sites as needed.

Dependent upon your location, this opportunity offers a generous relocation package.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • A BSEE degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required.

  • 5 or more years experience in the design of Medium Voltage Power Systems.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.

  • Experience tracking project information such as: schedules and expenditures against budgets, preparing status reports and client interface.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • 3 or more years experience in the design of substations 138kV and above.

  • Ability to prepare substation grounding calculations, direct stroke shielding calculations, battery & charger sizing calculations, etc.

  • Physical layout and protection & controls experience.

  • Ability to work with Designer to develop substation single line diagrams, relaying & metering diagrams, DC schematic diagrams, substation plan & sections, grounding plans, etc.

  • Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE/NEMA standards as they relate to substation design. This includes the National Electrical Safety Code (ANSI - C2).

  • PE license.

  • AutoCAD experience.

Develop Electricaldeliverables for all phases of a project including: conceptual design,preliminary design, and detailed design. * Develop the design of medium and lowvoltage facility power distribution systems from the electric utility interfacepoint. * Develop the design of emergency anduninterruptable power generation and distribution systems. * Develop the design of miscellaneousElectrical systems such as lighting, grounding, electrical heat tracing, firealarm, public address, security, card access, etc. * Develop typical Electricalengineering and design drawings such as: single line diagrams; power, lighting,grounding, fire alarm, and other systems plans; electrical area classificationplans; electrical equipment arrangement plans; cable tray layout plans andsections; conduit and cable schedules; motor control schematics. * Develop typical Electricalspecifications such as: electrical equipment (MV/LV switchgear, MCC's, powertransformers, standby/backup generators, UPSs, etc.); electrical installation –general requirements, testing, and commodities * Develop typical Electricaldatabases/spreadsheets such as: motor and electrical load lists; panel schedules. * Develop typical Electricalcalculations such as: load flow studies; voltage drop calculations; lightingcalculations; short circuit and protective device coordination analyses; arcflash calculations and label creation. * Participate in the development ofElectrical engineering and design effort hour estimates, material takeoffs, andconstruction cost estimates. * Participate in the development ofElectrical construction bid packages. * Participate in procurementactivities associated with Electrical systems and equipment. Procurementactivities include preparing technical data for inquiry packages, preparingtechnical bid evaluations, and review of vendor drawing and document submittalreviews. * Perform construction administrationactivities such as contractor submittals review, respond to requests forinformation (RFI), site reviews, and inspections. * Perform inspections of Electricalinstallations and Electrical equipment for conformance with engineeringdocuments, equipment specifications, and safety standards. Qualifications: * 8+ years of Electrical Engineering experience with designing power distribution systems for industrial facilities. Mission critical facility / data center design and operating experience is a significant plus. * 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required. * FE/EIT certification is required and an active professional engineers (PE) license is preferred. * Knowledge of Electrical engineering and design practices including drawings, specifications, codes, building materials and costs, and construction techniques. * Working knowledge of applicable electrical power system analysis software packages such as ETAP, EDSA, and/or SKM. * Working knowledge of NFPA, NEC, and applicable Electrical Codes as well as applicable Industry Codes and Standards (e.g. IEC, ANSI, IEEE, ISA). * Experience in facility medium and low voltage power distribution system design and the preparation of Electrical equipment and systems procurement and installation specifications. * Experience in emergency and uninterruptable power generation and distribution systems design and the preparation of associated Electrical equipment, procurement, and installation specifications. * Ability to work both independentlyand as a member of a team of engineers and designers on multiple, concurrentlyexecuted projects. * Good organizational andcommunication skills.
