Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing the department with technical expertise to design, develop, test, and implement product components. Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for planning and performing design development tasks from concept to implementation.

  • Responsible for studying and evaluating disciplinary or interdisciplinary aspects of new product or design concepts, including all necessary functions leading to presentation and recommendation of possible solutions.

  • Plan and direct testing necessary to assure adequate performance of designs for all stages of design and development, or complexity.

  • Provides technical advice and particular expertise to department personnel.

  • Responsible for the timely completion and adequacy of the assigned development task for performance and compliance with standards.

  • Responsible for the adequate documentation of the performed task including description, specification, testing and implementation.

  • Responsible for the clear presentation of developments or designs at design reviews.

  • Responsible for providing technical leadership and assistance to lower level department personnel.

  • Responsible for independently taking control and completing assigned major sections of a new product development effort.

  • Responsible for troubleshooting production floor problems and completing design changes, as a result of investigation.


  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Knowledge and experience of Analog & digital circuit design.

  • Knowledge and experience of Control systems and motor drive design.

  • Design experience with CPLDs, FPGAs, M3 microcontrollers, Optical Encoders, Hall-effect current sensors, MOSFETs, Op Amps, ESD & overcurrent protection, DC-DC switching power supplies.

  • Working knowledge of LTSpice, OrCAD, VHDL. Experience designing to FCC Class B standards.

  • Must be able to direct board layout designers to produce FCC Class B compliant designs.

  • Support other departments, troubleshoot circuit boards.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the design and development of discipline product components.

  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills for writing reports, interfacing with manufacturing, engineering, etc and be computer literate.

  • Pronounced abilities in understanding and application of engineering sciences such as mathematics, physics, engineering statistics, etc.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word.

Provide leadership, training, and direction to fellow staff members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs with minimal supervision and guidance. Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. Provides coordination and communication with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments. Provides assistance and guidance to other departments and districts in the solution of non-standard substation design problems. Monitors project expenditures, and practice cost control such that project commitments are met. Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified. Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. Ensure all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company. Perform related duties as assigned. Requirements Essential Education, Skills, and Environment Education and Work Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited school and 5 years industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license then must have 8+ years as a practicing engineer. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of: * Substation/control engineering principals and knowledge of other phases of engineering. * Areas of cost control, budgets, finance, and accounting with technical experiences in cost analysis. * Skills such as: * Analytical, interpersonal and communication with company personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies. * Multi-tasking's, leadership, research, analysis, project management, problem-solving and decision-making. Equipment and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Work Environment and Physical Demands General office environment with some field work for supervision. Compensation Annual Salary: $88,000 (Min) to $107,300 (Mid); Up to 10% Short Term Incentive Plan opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
