Basic Job Functions:
Nucor Steel Connecticut has an opening in our Electrical Maintenance Department for a Daylight Controls/Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of electrical principles and practical experience as it relates to the electrical processes and system equipment. The Engineer's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Support day to day operation by ensuring equipment uptime in conjunction with shift electrician teammates.
Understand and troubleshoot AC and DC motors and their associated drive control components.
Program and troubleshoot PLC systems and networks, including instrumentation, electromechanical relays, and HMI components.
Utilize variety of tools including historical data analysis, multimeters, technical manuals, and hands-on observation to determine and correct equipment failures.
Analyze and implement control system improvements to increase equipment safety, reliability, and functionality.
Effectively communicate and document technical findings to teammates of varying technical backgrounds.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including scheduled & unscheduled Overtime & weekends per business needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Four year engineering degree(Electrical Engineering preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years industrial electrical experience.
Demonstrated computer skill set including experience with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, and Siemens TIA.
Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Siemens S7 PLCs.
Familiarity with Variable Frequency Drives and/or DC Motor Drives.
Ability to interpret electrical schematics for installation, repair, and maintaining equipment
Basic pneumatic and hydraulic system knowledge

Main responsibilities include creating electrical protection & control and/or physical layout design deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. This position can influence the future of the resiliency and reliability of the electric grid. Opportunities to advance into leadership roles are available. Position may include full or partial responsibility of the following assignments: * Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs, and execution plans * Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules * Physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material * Protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring * Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.) * Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing * Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.) * Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members * Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel * Provide short term field support during construction * Support business development and marketing initiatives * Other areas of involvement may include: relay settings, 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited program * Minimum 3 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience) * Completion of FE exam strongly preferred * Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standards * Strong preference for those with: o Excellent written & verbal communication skills o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills o Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria EEO/Minorities/Females/Disabled/Veterans Burns & Mcdonnell Wallingford CT
