The Plant Electrical engineer is responsible for the planning and implementation of multi-disciplinary capital and reliability improvement projects. The position also acts in a technical support role to achieve maintenance objectives.
Role and Responsibilities
Leads by example with respect to plant safety policies and initiatives. Champions opportunities to engineer out equipment hazards
Planning, from initial concept, and implementation of capital improvement projects. Lead basic and detailed design efforts using own skill and outside engineering resources. Supervises project work during implementation phase. For large scale projects leads multi-disciplinary team to accomplish project objectives
Assists maintenance department with reliability improvement projects and troubleshooting complex electrical maintenance, power distribution, and automation issues
Maintains the plant database of electrical blueprints
Post- startup of equipment writes maintenance and operating procedures, and leads efforts for new spare parts stocking
Creates and modifies drawings and sketches to document changes to plant electrical schematics
Acts as the plant contact for technical interaction with our electrical utility provider
Maintains high voltage distribution network and energy monitoring activities
Assists with Continuous Improvement projects involving equipment and processes to reduce unscheduled maintenance delays.
Assist in developing the Capital Project risk audits and project assessments.
Assist in documenting historical data relative to equipment life, failures and repairs. Collaborates with the reliability team on developing maintenance procedures for revised equipment
Qualifications and Education Requirements
5 years experience in project management or heavy industrial maintenance
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology. Equivalent practical steel mill experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Competence in 2D drafting using Autocad
Project management experience in equipment upgrades and capital projects
Preferred Skills
Must have a strong commitment to safety by example, leadership and reinforcement Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Is a strong leader who possesses good interpersonal skills and is willing to work in a team oriented environment. Must be willing to be active on the shop floor
Competence in arc flash analysis software
Technical experience or certification in infrared thermography
Experience with Electric Arc Furnaces and Hot Strip Mills is a plus
