We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer, III (battery development) to join our team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop requirements for battery modules and packs.

  • Design, develop, implement and test battery components and concepts.

  • Plan, schedule, and execute test plans for battery cell and pack testing.

  • Develop and build a variety of battery-related models such as performance, and aging models.

  • Perform experiments needed for validating and tuning model parameters.

  • Take cell data, and turn into cell level RC-type (or other) models, and expand to the module and pack performance modeling.

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team to design and produce battery packs.

  • Interface with outside test facilities and vendors to perform the required testing.

Required Qualifications & Background

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card) required due to ITAR

  • Bachelors Degree in electrical, chemical, or related engineering. MS a plus.

  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience in the lithium-ion battery field.

  • Proven experience with various lithium-ion chemistries and its characteristics.

  • Understanding of electric vehicles and components a must.

  • Experience in Matlab/Simulink.

  • Experience with 1D-3D simulation tools (e.g. GT, STARCCM+, ANSYS Fluent, etc) a plus.

  • Experience in experiment design, battery cell testing and safety/design, exposure to test equipment such as Arbin, ABC-150, Maccor cyclers, Novonix, etc. a plus.

  • Ability to read and draw wiring schematics, top level, components, connectors, fuses, and relays.

  • Ability to spec and recommend fuses, cable sizes, switches and relays for both LV 12VDC and HV 400 VDC systems.

  • Working knowledge of inter-module communications protocols like SM bus, I2C, and others a plus.

  • Familiarity with motors, inverters, converters, and chargers a plus.

  • Experience building a custom BMS is a plus.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Able to deliver high-quality work while working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Creative individual thinks outside the box to find solutions to never solved problems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer competency in word processing, spreadsheets a must.

  • Some travel required.

Our Moorpark, CA location is looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer. The Supplier Quality Engineer performs, monitors and evaluates Quality Control functions at suppliers and Benchmark facilities in order to assure components and materials meet or exceed requirements. May also perform Quality function at customer's site. Involved with supplier selection and development activities related to New Product Introduction (NPI), Prototype and Production business. Essential Functions and Competencies N/A Qualifications / Education / Experience * Perform Quality Control functions at supplier's facilities, such as source inspection and test of supplier's products as specified by Subcontract, Purchase Order and/or associated documentation (specifications, drawings, qualifications and special and acceptance procedures) * Develop and control test and inspection instructions to be utilized by Supplier Q.A. functions (Incoming Inspection and Supplier) to assure compliance with Benchmark and Contract Quality requirements * Provide technical assistance to Incoming Inspection, suppliers and other Benchmark functions so that they may prevent fabrication, test and inspection problems; May also provide technical assistance at customer sites * Provide technical assistance in the preparation of workmanship standards, instructions and inspection criteria for suppliers and Benchmark; Initiate product design changes through proper channels to improve part quality or enhance ease of manufacturing, test and inspection * Perform quality audits of supplier's and Benchmark's processes and procedures to determine the effectiveness of the Quality Program * Report results, indicating conclusions and suggested actions for suppliers and Benchmark, and prepare and initiate Corrective Action Requests (CARs) to suppliers and Benchmark when non-compliances to quality requirements exist; Follow-up to satisfactorily close out all CARs issued * Perform failure analyses with suppliers on relevant failures on returned products; Analyze reported defects and failures; Investigate discrepancies and initiate corrective actions when necessary to preclude future rejects * Familiarize suppliers in the use of Benchmark's documented process system to capture and record actions and results * Oversee sample, special and qualification tests; Assist other Supplier Quality Engineers during failure analysis with the supplier on product returns, final acceptance and environmental failures * Prepare reports on procured product quality and corrective actions taken and reply to Customer/Government inquiries regarding supplier Quality Assurance * Prepare summaries of research and maintain files on vendors to provide immediate current and historical information of procured product reliability * Benchmark Electronics Moorpark CA
