We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer, I (motor design and control) to join our team.

We are seeking a hands-on composite design engineer to join our team developing a solar-electric-powered aircraft. You will support various company projects and programs across the entire life cycle of product development and design of all-electric aircraft. This position will be an integral part of the structures team working on composite aircraft, including design of airframe structure, material selection, as well as interfacing of those structures with various aircraft subsystems.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a variety of power conversion devices and motor control systems from the early stages of design through final testing and manufacturing support.

  • Perform design, analysis, component evaluation and selection, and lab/field testing of engineering units.

  • Conducts vendor searches, order components, and provide technical liaison with vendors

  • Creates detailed schematics and writes assembly and test procedures.

  • Execute and modify detailed test plans & procedures and write test reports documenting test results.

  • Execute functional, performance, and environmental tests on power and propulsion components.

  • Maintain objectivity and composure under pressure.

  • Be agile and open to deal with shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.

Required Qualifications & Background

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card) required due to ITAR

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required. MS a plus.

  • 0-2 yrs experience in the field is required.

  • Recent experience must include design, development, test, system integration of components.

  • Hands-on (lab) experience with power electronics and electric drive systems is required.

  • Must have analog and power circuit design experience in addition to digital circuit design.

  • Must be familiar with control theory employing both analog and digital components and must be well versed in both AC and DC motors fundamentals.

  • Must have a strong familiarity with magnetic, thermal and EMI design challenges in high power >100kW, switch-mode power devices.

  • Good working knowledge of component options and suppliers/vendors.

  • Experience writing test plans, procedures, and reports a plus.

  • Experience with the manufacturing of high-reliability, flight systems a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Computer competency in word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic design tools.

  • Some travel required.

You will: * Be responsible for circuit design and PCB layout at the schematic level with experience in Altium or Orcad. * Design embedded systems utilizing Texas Instrument's ARM, Microchip PIC, and Atmel microcontrollers/processors. * Select components including capacitors, resistors, IC's, batteries, connectors, WiFi/Bluetooth Modules, etc., paying attention to product requirements, availability, lead time, and quality. * Prototype and work with quick-turn board fabrication houses for proof of concept designs. * Utilize electrical test equipment including Oscilloscopes, Digital Meters, and power supplies. * Utilize firmware test equipment including debuggers, emulators, and programmers. * Develop communication protocols and hardware (Ethernet/WiFi/RS485/UPS/U2C/SPI, etc.). * Be responsible for the development and validation of product firmware, bootloaders and test code. * Conduct hardware testing and debugging for robustness and general reliability. * Support and lead new designs from concept to post release with a strong sense of urgency and creativity. * Maintain, build out new features, and iterate on existing features of current products. * Work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver reliable Connected Products on time and on budget. * Have a commitment to rapid development. You should: * Have earned at least a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. * Have 7+ years of experience developing electrical designs in Orcad and Altium. * Have 7+ years of experience writing firmware in C/C++ on a variety of microcontroller platforms. * Have experience with IoT and Connected Products. * Have experience with WiFi Modules (ESP32, etc.) and associated firmware. * Be computer literate with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and Outlook. * Have experience in designing products for high volume manufacturing. * Have a strong knowledge of analog and digital design, including a broad background of microcontroller based systems. * Have strong firmware design skills with a proven ability in persevering to overcome and solve problems. * Have the capability of working in a small focused development team dedicated to IoT products as well as the broader cross functional team environment, including: mechanical design, molding, manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, sales, product management and quality. * Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Have the ability to communicate on all levels clearly and concisely. * Be engineering diligent, accurate and detailed orientated. * Be self-motivated and able to multi-task and communicate effectively with little supervision.
