A Day in the Life of an Electrical Engineer I Flight Test Instrumentation:

Bell is seeking a self-motivated Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer to join the Advanced Vertical Lift Systems Flight Test Instrumentation and Data Operations team. We are seeking engineers who strive for daily innovation and excellence and have a passion for meeting and exceeding expectations. As part of Advanced Vertical Lift Systems, you will be working with a team of engineers on a variety of leading-edge air vehicles

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Accurate program status reporting

  • Work within established schedules and budgets as defined by the project leader

  • Adhere to Bell best practices and group procedures

  • Design, implement, and maintain Airborne Data Acquisition Systems used to condition, monitor, and record data for a given test

  • Knowledgeable of specialized data processing and data transfer of flight test data using Bell developed software applications and written procedures to support the technician staff

  • Coordinate aircraft setup configurations related to data processing with various internal and external groups

  • Maintain a high level of performance

  • Proficiency with all related data system software applications associated with the job

  • Provide work instructions, direction and support for maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading all related instrumentation systems

  • Documentation including updates to procedures, distribution of meeting notes, establishing related metrics, use of reporting tools, distribution of schedule updates/status and maintaining proper instrumentation configuration documents

  • Generating and updating electrical drawings and installation documents

  • Adhere to flight test policies and procedures to ensure quality and safe data acquisition and operations

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.

  • 3.0 minimum overall, undergraduate GPA is strongly preferred.

Minimum Requirements for an Electrical Engineer I Flight Test Instrumentation at Bell:

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a secret level security clearance

  • Knowledge in the following instrumentation sensor applications is preferred:

  • strain gages

  • accelerometers

  • pressure transducers

  • thermocouples

  • RTDs

  • Ablility to read and understand electrical schematics is required.

  • Must be familiar with AutoCAD, Draftsight or equivalent for creating, modifying or updating electrical drawings.

  • Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of software applications (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to travel approximately 15% of the time is required.

The IFG flight test department supports both F-16 and F-22 developmental and sustainment flight test. This job will concentrate on F-16. The successful applicant will provide flight test modification and ground operations engineering support. Tasks will include directing aircraft modifications, coordination and execution of engineering directed tasks to include ground test, maintenance on test unique hardware, and pre-flight/post-flight activities on testbed aircraft. Position requires control and tracking of aircraft configuration, coordinating and staging of support equipment, developing and maintaining aircraft test schedules, and coordinating with other organizations associated with test readiness. This position will act as a focal point between maintenance and engineering personnel. The ability to interface with all levels of management is required. Above average oral and written communication skills are required. Exceptional planning and coordinating skills are also required. Must be a US Citizen; this position will require a government security clearance. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.
