Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field investigations and analyze fires/failures/accidents involving all types of electrical equipment and wiring systems

  • Perform electrical evaluations of failed and damaged components to determine the root cause of the failure including lightning damage, electrocutions, electrically related fires, appliance and consumer product failure evaluation, commercial equipment failures and damage evaluation of other power or electrical systems

  • Apply electrical engineering principles in accordance with industry standards to investigation analysis

  • Conduct unbiased field and lab investigations for various types of clients

  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups

  • Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms both verbally and in writing

  • Support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required, Master's Degree preferred

  • Must have P.E. registration through testing

  • Minimum of five (5) years of electrical engineering experience

  • Background in power systems, controls, and NEC knowledge beneficial

  • Interest in fire-related investigations

  • Excellent oral and writing skills

  • Public speaking experience a plus

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • 25% travel

  • Ability to lift 80 lbs.

  • Ability to remove large and or heavy artifacts from fire scenes

  • Ability to carry equipment (shovels, camera, evidence case, etc.) up flights of stairs

  • Ability to shovel out fires and lift fire debris in conjunction with investigations, for up to 3 to 4 hours at a time

  • Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and structures and climb ladders

  • Ability to drive to site locations and fly on airplanes

Bertram Yachts are typically complex and larger boats may be highly customized.</p> <p><strong>Preferred Experience</strong></p> <p></p> <p>This position is responsible for the design of marine power distribution systems and integration of marine electrical systems/components and electronics. The Ideal Candidate for this position will have experience in Marine System Integration, Vehicle System Integration, RV System Integration, or Similar. A strong Knowledge of AC and DC power distribution is required.</p> <p>Note: Circuit Board Designers, Electronics Designers, Computer and Software Designers are <strong>not</strong> the Ideal Candidates for this position as it deals with large harness design.</p> <p><strong>Position Description</strong></p> <p>The primary function of this position will be the creation and integration of electrical designs for new boat and yacht product. This will be achieved by working with outside vendors and internal engineering development team. Responsibilities include development of electronics plans (i.e. Garmin displays, radars, VHF), AC/DC power distribution plans for components such as generators, inverters, refrigeration, appliances, pumps, audio/visual systems, lighting etc. and some custom component design such as breaker panels and switch panels. It also includes space planning for electrical components and routing planning for wire runs.</p> <p>Once designs are created this position will work with applicable vendors to create new parts such as breaker panels and switch panels, create drawings for installation and create harness drawings for production. Finally, this position will be responsible for the integration of the systems on prototypes and maintaining system design through the life of the product. Although existing products are not the primary responsibly of this position the person will occasionally be used for troubleshooting and redesign of our current product lineup. </p> <p></p> <p><strong>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Develop AC and DC electrical power distribution systems and coordinate efforts with contract engineering resources as required</li> <li>Design layouts and arrangements for electrical equipment</li> <li>Complete all necessary electrical load, wire size, and circuit protection calculations</li> <li>Work with external suppliers to specify and create new parts such as AC/DC panels</li> <li>Develop digital switching systems as appropriate</li> <li>Develop information necessary to build electrical systems Bill of Materials</li> <li>Create 3D harness routing and production drawings</li> <li>Create electrical systems installation drawings</li> <li>Provide technical expertise and transfer knowledge to the technicians building the product</li> <li>Help to build Electrical Standards Library and provide training to the intended audience.</li> <li>Support the build and integration of new products on the prototype and support production ramp up</li> <li>Trouble shoot electrical/mechanical issues on work in process as needed by technicians</li> <li>Create Red lines and documentation for changes. Including electrical/mechanical issues, hardware locations, general installation etc.</li> <li>Take and pass NMMA standards test and become in house compliance specialist</li> <li>Support electrical quality audits and boat commissioning efforts</li> <li>Other duties may be assigned as needed.</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering required</li> <li>5+ years of Electrical experience in the marine industry, RV Industry or similar having worked as a Design engineer. </li> <li>The preferred candidate will be NMMA Certified. <strong>strong</strong> attention to detail required Specific understanding of Electrical Design pertinent to assigned projects required</li> <li>Excellent interpersonal, leadership, verbal and written communication skills required</li> <li>Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple duties/projects at one time, work independently with minimal supervision and resolve conflict in a professional manner</li> <li>In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire without being sponsored by an employer</li> </ul><p><strong>SAFETY</strong></p><p>Must follow established safety and health procedures, rules, and requirements for the job.
