Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking an

Electrical Engineer to be based in our Carlsbad, New Mexico location.

The successful candidate will be required to perform engineering calculations and analysis within the scope of engineering discipline and provide rigorous written documentation supporting design decisions. Effectively interface with various departments including Quality Assurance, Procurement, Project Management, Operations and Maintenance personnel. Provide technical field leadership support to solve equipment malfunctions. Maintain system configuration documentation including, but not limited to system drawings, design specifications, trending analysis, and system health indicators including performing system health walk downs and system health reports. Maintain qualification on annual training covering commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures used to complete the engineering process. Will perform electrical modification/evaluation of existing systems, perform routine inspections for adherence to applicable building/construction codes/regulations; engineering design change processes, and configuration design control. The successful candidate will be required to qualify as a System Engineer (SE) in the appropriate areas as designated by engineering management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with two (2) years of relevant experience, or

  • Associate's degree in Engineering or Technology with six (6) years of relevant experience.

  • Due to the nature of work, candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NFPA 70, National Electric Code is preferred.

  • Familiarity with NFPA70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.

  • Knowledge of Medium Voltage and Low Voltage in an industrial Process.

  • One (1) year of Nuclear experience is a plus.

  • Previous WIPP experience is desired.

Responsibilities: * Develop, manage, and participate in programs, methods, systems and practices for maintaining a safe work environment * Apply corrective techniques to optimize equipment reliability and maintenance cost * Contract other technical and engineering groups for assistance beyond expertise or capability * Develop and institute plans for preventive/predictive maintenance on equipment related to areas of specialization to provide reliability and reduce cost * Develop testing, monitoring and calibration procedures for electrical equipment * Monitor equipment performance and make recommendations to improve reliability and reduce cost * Provide cost estimating and engineering proposals on routine replacement of equipment to correct maintenance problems or for the improvement of processing equipment * Supervise the installation of such equipment * Provide technical support to production and maintenance organizations throughout the plant to evaluate and resolve maintenance problems * Provide training to production, maintenance, and other departments in the proper operation and care of equipment in area of expertise * Develop the necessary training required * Keep current on new technology and equipment and evaluate same for use in plant * Attend technical meetings and seminars to maintain and improve skills as related to their discipline and areas of maintenance management * Actively participates in plant's Health Environmental, Safety and Security (HESS) programs and meetings to assure a safe and environmentally sound workplace * Assumes accountability for meeting plant safety goals and various other requirements including training, work permits, critical items inspections, job observations, housekeeping, reporting hazards and issues, and working safely in job assignments * BS Degree in Electrical Engineering * Experience in industrial plant maintenance * Strong Troubleshooting skills * Candidates should have 3 to 15 years experience * Must be knowledgeable of electrical safety requirements as found in publications such as NFPA 70E * Must have knowledge of Arc Flash Hazards * Be experienced in switching of equipment at voltage levels from 480 volts through 230,000 volts * Must be competent in the maintenance and trouble shooting of liquid filled transformers, motors, breakers, cable * Should be knowledgeable in preventative and predictive maintenance techniques as they relate to electrical equipment Additional Qualifications: * Experience with high voltage equipment operations and maintenance * Knowledge of Rectifiers a plus * Knowledge of NERC and SERC regulations a plus Oxy is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Individual with Disability/Veteran Status Oxy Carlsbad NM
