Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

Provide engineering design support for multiple project sites of medium to high voltage electrical substation projects for the top domestic electric utility companies. Produce construction documents for the physical and/or electrical (Protection & Control) aspects of substation projects including medium to high voltage physical arrangement, microprocessor-based protection and controls systems, AC and DC systems and various calculations.

Perform engineering and procurement for design of medium and high voltage (12 kV and above) power substations, including, but not limited to, the following: Perform detailed design and create constructible deliverables in the areas of physical, protection and control (schematics and wiring), and SCADA/RTU/DFR/AC/DC systems. Perform various calculations including, but not limited to:

AC/DC, Lightning, Conduit Fill, and Voltage Drop. Perform site visits for scope identification and develops proposals. Supervise, mentor, and train design engineers and technicians.

Assist in recruiting professionals for Black & Veatch. Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including: Engineering and construction cost estimates, planning of project approach, conceptual design, budgeting, and scheduling.

Promote a quality focused culture and effectively implements Black & Veatch's thorough quality assurance program. Accountable for engineering schedule and budget performance, quality of engineering solutions, and deliverables. Develop strong relationships with and becomes a trusted partner with clients.

Assist in engineering oversight during construction phase. Responsible for handling multiple projects and providing a detailed design package that complies with applicable engineering design standards and all safety codes. No hire/fire authority. Two available openings.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related from an ABET accredited college or university plus three years of substation design experience. Must have experience with ANSI codes, preparing Bill of Materials, estimating design costs, design of electrical physical installation and/or protection, relaying and control, and training and mentoring less experienced engineers and technicians.

Must have experience with Quality Assurance or Quality Control processes for electrical design projects, and working with clients in all aspects, including physical or protection and control. Travel required 5% of time to client sites within domestic U.S. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
