Job Summary

Functions in an engineer capacity. Under close supervision, performs routine aspects of engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to prescribed techniques and procedures to complete project assignments.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards:

  • Develops familiarity by reading, understanding and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures

Quality/Continuous Improvement:

  • Develops an understanding and complies with the Black and Veatch quality program

  • Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts

Engineering Production:

  • Contributes to preparation of less complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope

  • Performs routine research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection

  • Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work

  • Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis

  • Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements

Project Coordination:

  • Shares information with others as requested

  • Coordinates with others when directed by supervisor or project leadership

Client Focus:

  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers

  • May provide support to business development or pursuit activities

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:

  • Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes

Minimum Qualifications

No experience required. Requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

VIEW JOBS 9/29/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-28T00:00 Summary The person selected for this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Typical tasks will include completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; writing proposals and reports; and communicating with clients. Project work will be related to power and controls for power plants, refineries, mining facilities, municipal water and wastewater facilities, and other heavy industrial facilities. The work may at times involve short-term, out-of-town assignments. NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Minimum Qualifications * B.S. in Electrical Engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems * 0 to 3 years of relevant experience * Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word * Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills * Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative * A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs * Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship * Acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications * Experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization * Knowledge and experience with industrial manufacturing processes such as power plants, petroleum refining, mining and/or minerals processing, chemical production or municipal facilities * Power distribution experience * Experience interfacing databases of common Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) with other end-user applications such as Distributed Control Systems (DCSs) * Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and short-circuit studies and analyses * Experience with motor control, lighting, grounding, conduit plans, sizing of power cable and electrical equipment * Familiarization with fundamentals of short circuit and protective device coordination calculations * Proven project or task management skills * Working knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above * Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified, or ability to obtain within one year * GPA 3.0 or greater Barr Engineering Co. reserves the right to consider other legitimate, non-discriminatory factors that are not specifically listed.
