Perform electrical design of projects including lighting, motor control, electrical circuitry, special systems (fire alarm, security, and power distribution).
Engineering support to Planning Department architects, designers, shops, architects and contractors during all project phases of planning, design, plan review and construction.
Ensure project quality control and adherence to plans and specifications.
Qualify electrical contractors, products and product vendors for inclusion with campus projects.
Coordinate drafting responsibilities with Electrical Engineering Department students
Requires a working knowledge of current versions of AutoCAD and Revit Programs
Ensures the electrical designs developed are accurate and meet the needs of the University
Translates needs into working design documents.
Coordinates and designs electrical components of projects.
Assists Electrical Shop with electrical engineering problems.
Meets and provides electrical support to Planning Department.
Designs electrical engineering projects of a wide variety (e.g. secondary voltage power, telephone, clock and bell, fire alarm and security, audio, video, computer, lighting, etc.)
Maintain campus CNA database for lighting, electrical equipment, fire alarm and security systems.
Supports activities of other University departments.
Design Electrical systems using CAD and Revit and applying IEC designation codes to drawings
Create/prepare cost estimates for PF Planning and campus departments
Heavy emphasis in interior and exterior lighting design (rooms, labs, sports fields, aesthetics, safety lighting, etc.) for remodels, retrofits, and other in-house projects
Coordinate with OIT, Physical Facilities Planning and shops, and campus departments regarding design and specifications for in-house projects
Supervises and helps train electrical engineering students
Coordinates supervision, training and hiring of university students as engineering drafters.
Receives red-lined drawings from department electrical engineers.
Assigns drafting assignments to electrical engineering department students.
Provide electrical engineering department drawings services as needed.
Maintains excellent quality workmanship and compliance to plans, specifications and codes
Performs special inspection assignments
Inspects electrical installations.
Formulates decision and recommendations to solve major and minor problems.
Works with construction coordinators on electrical aspects of a project to insure contract documents are followed.
Assist Senior Electrical Engineer
Access and report problems that need to be fixed and know who to escalate problems to
Work with and support coordination team to help develop/outline plans
Back-up to meet with off-campus contractors and make construction site observations
May perform fire alarm and security designs
May update CNA database for lighting, electrical equipment, fire alarm, security, and pathway systems
May prepare Bid Breakdown forms

Minimum education/experience required:
Associate's Degree in Electrical Design/Technology and two years full-time equivalent experience, or four years full-time experience in electrical design and drafting.
Level 54: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 3+ years Electrical Engineering experience including Lighting and Power Distribution.
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
Broad experience in construction methods and procedures
In-depth comprehension of National Electrical Code, ADA applicability affecting facility planning and IES illumination standards
Must have the ability to work with a variety of individuals in a coordinating function while subjected to others perspectives and opinions
Experience in electrical design with commensurate CAD and REVIT skills
High level knowledge of electrical systems
Ability to prepare accurate, detailed drawings and reports related to on-campus electrical projects
Ability to layout and design and electrical system to 80-90% complete status and ready for review by senior engineer
Ability to take initiative and follow through on work assignments
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
