What is an Electrical Design Technician?

An Electrical Design Technician will support and aid the R&D Department in the design of a variety of electrical products in support of development and manufacturing activities and regulatory requirements by using thorough knowledge of design practices and good engineering concepts with minimal supervision. Perform a variety of electrical engineering work in design and development of products and their component parts, PCB software. 2D/3D CAD, testing and analysis. Support manufacturing and customers with new and existing products and provide root cause analysis for problems or failures.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have experience with THT/SMT components and PCB assembly. Experience with 4-20 loop devices, HART, C++ and assembly language programming is ideal.

Duties and Responsibilities
1.Create and modify PCB layouts in Altium design software.
2.Perform electrical prototyping and testing.
3.Work with outside vendors and/or consultants on electrical drawings and projects.
4.Provide customer and field support for electrical devices as needed.
5.Support manufacturing with electrical production and problems.
6.Create 2D/3D parts, assemblies, and drawings with Auto-Cad and Inventor.
7.Manage and schedule tasks on small projects.
8.Perform field installations, beta testing, and troubleshooting as needed.
9.Possible travel to customer sites for troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment.
10. Interact and communicate with all levels of employees within the Company, as well as suppliers, customers, and peers effectively.
11. Maintain quality assurance policy consistent with ISO standards.
12. Comply with policies, procedures, standards and rules of the Company.
13. Maintain work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
14. Punctual, regular and consistent attendance.
15. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Education

  • 2 year Electronic Technicians Degree/Diploma or Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering required. Preferred candidate would consider obtaining a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering.

    PCB schematic capture and layout experience preferred. Minimum of 3 years' experience in the Process Control industry preferred. Experience with 4-20 loop devices and HART preferred.

    C++ and assembly language programming preferred. Experience with THT/SMT components and PCB assembly required. Proficient with schematics, soldering, and circuit troubleshooting.

    Able to perform calibrations, product testing, and record/summarize data. Able to investigate technologies and resolve problems individually or as part of a team. Fluent with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical and Technical Environment

  • Minimal lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally using proper lifting techniques or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment or help from another employee. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop in a normal office environment.

    Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office and shop area, walking, climbing stairs, utilizing elevator. Separate exposure to machine, chemical and tool hazards requiring care and attention to safety rules and standards. Must respond to changing requirements and working conditions. Some travel required, exposure to varying environments and cultures at the job site, changing deadlines, strict time constraints.
