We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our Electronic and Power Systems group located in Huntsville, AL. Under general directions with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving complex electrical design problems for satellite, missile, and/or acoustic sensor subsystems with specific focus on digital and analog design.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team engaged in the design, analysis, documentation, and prototyping of aerospace and/or commercial electronic subsystems utilizing analog and digital circuitry (microprocessors/microcontrollers/FPGAs/power converters/MOSFET's, etc.).
Performs all aspects of electronics development from seeking and deriving requirements to employing appropriate techniques for design, fabrication, and testing.
Participates in the review and finalization of detailed subsystem performance requirements, interface control documents, test requirements, integration planning, etc.
Performs design trade studies and analysis to determine the best approach to meet competing demands of performance, cost, and schedule.
Works on improvements and enhancements to existing designs, troubleshooting hardware, failure analysis, test procedure creation, and electronics testing.
Documents test and verification activities at the electrical system and/or subsystem level.
Conducts reviews and/or provide significant technical analysis and commentary on the system and engineering specification, schematic, and/or verification phases of development.
Consults with other engineers and program teams charged with sustaining engineering activities in order to ensure continuity of assembly/testing activities or customer commitments
Formulates plans and guides the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including deployment, resource requirements, testing, documentation, integration and compliance and safety.
Plans for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.
Participates in or may lead the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.
Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, four or more years of experience with a master's degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
US Citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
Demonstrates working knowledge and experience in designing complex mixed signal analog and digital electronic systems
Demonstrated ability to create detailed hardware and functional specifications is required.
Demonstrated schematic and/or PCB layout design experience is required.
Prior experience with Altium Designer is preferred.
Cable harness design experience is required.
FPGA/CPLD firmware design experience is desired.
Ability to design for high G or space environments is desired.
Experience with Flight Termination System qualification and RCC319 tailoring desired.
Experience with the creation and review of Parts Management Plans desired.
Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects. Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
Professional Engineering License and original work published in professional engineering journals are desirable.
Able to work extended hours as required.
