Electrical Controls Engineering Supervisor

Our client, an expanding custom manufacturer on the East coast, is searching for a highly qualified Electrical Controls Engineering Supervisor to join their growing team.


The Controls Engineering Supervisor will bring experience generating electric circuit drawings, wiring diagrams, designing electrical and electronic hardware systems for machine controls. He/she will be programming PLC applications and HMI interfaces, programming controls for process, developing I/O lists, BOM, power schematics and single line drawings, performing engineering calculations for controls. He/she will develop PLC control programming and HMI applications and develop AutoCAD Electrical drawings, ensuring that the design meets NEC, NFPA and other standards.

The Controls Engineering Supervisor will plan, develop and test software and automation control systems for capital equipment and systems, as well as provide training support to operations personnel with regard to setup, function and control of automated equipment. He/she will create / maintain electrical schematics or component layout diagrams and integrate devices from multiple vendors into packaged solutions. Also as a part of this role within the group, the Controls Engineer will take part in installs and start up services, technical support and field service engineering on site with clients/customers as needed up to 20-25%.
Our ideal candidate will bring:

A 4 year technical degree, ideally BSEE and 10 years or more experience in a custom equipment and systems environment and hands on with developing complex controls

Experience in a Senior level, Lead, Supervisory or Management role in the Electrical Controls Engineering field and proven experience to lead as this role will lead a team, potentially a department.

PLC programming and troubleshooting, as well as HMI configuration

Knowledge of electrical standards that include IEC, UL, NEC, as well as communication protocols such as Ethernet / IP, Devicenet, Modbus, etc.

Device integration, Wonderware and P&ID expertise

Additional ideal qualifications to include expertise with AB and Siemens, SolidWorks or other design platforms, SCR controls, and experience with VB, C#, C++, Java script computer languages, as well as database design including SQL, HTML development, etc.

Ability to travel up to 25%, both domestic & international

As Lead Electrical Engineer - Global Operations Engineering, you mentor engineers within the regional engineering, design, construction and site operations job families. Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support. Leads medium to large scale projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Develops and implements policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either multiple, large construction projects or delivery of operations for an IBX portfolio. Responsibilities * Leads and manages multiple projects or other design and engineering initiatives * Provides guidance, technical expertise and project leadership in ensuring projects or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations * Expert operating knowledge of engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs * Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issues * Works with vendors to identify and resolve hardware and software issues with vendors products which affect Equinix operations (i.e., works with equipment vendors to understand the impacts and consequential workarounds of an equipment setting change based on its hardware design and the site configuration of the equipment) * Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others * Reviews and recommends work practice guidelines and policies * Interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines * Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to formulate long term strategies for managing power and cooling resources * Contributes to identifying and developing training programs * Provides cross-functional training * Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training, participation in industry groups or meetings and shadowing others * Is SME with many systems and trains others inside and outside of the group * Contributes to developing and executing effective contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation * Mentors junior team members.
