FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to perform and/or assist in a variety of skilled and difficult work in the electrical and/or low voltage electronics field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the repair and replacement of steam tables, ovens, cookers, and other appliances, repairs thermostats, electrical circuits and coordinates repairs with cafeteria managers.

  • Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, electrical devices, machinery and equipment; cuts, bends, and threads conduit; pulls wire through conduit, under the supervision of an Electrical Technician.

  • Installs fixtures, outlets, and switches and makes wire connections under the supervision of an Electrical Technician.

  • Finds and replaces defective wiring and makes connections to new electrical installations.

  • Makes repairs to small electrical motors and appliances.

  • Replaces breakers in lighting panels, power panels and service equipment under supervision of an Electrical Technician.

  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of various low voltage equipment with regard to the NFPA and other applicable codes such as Fire Alarms, Public Address, Sports Scoring, telephone, and other similar systems.

  • Pulls fiber optic and other low voltage cables above ceilings and underground.

  • Uses motorized equipment such as trenchers, bucket trucks and derrick trucks, adhering to OSHA safety standards and departmental protocols at all times. Also, operates a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Assists in keeping service truck stocked with needed parts, supplies, and tools; identifies needed parts and vendors; picks up parts and supplies from vendors.

  • Assists other departments and divisions in repairs; as well as assist with snow/ice removal from driveways, parking lots and sidewalks.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge of methods, tools, parts, and equipment used in Electrical trade; as well as occupational hazards and safety procedures in work area.

  • Introductory knowledge of the principles and techniques of the Electrical trade.

  • Basic ability to detect electrical issues by inspection or use of equipment such as multi-meters.

  • Introductory knowledge of NFPA codes as related to the trade.

  • Extensive knowledge/experience with computers.

  • Ability to understand and accurately follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematic diagrams.

  • Ability to operate fleet vehicles safely.

  • Ability to maintain accurate written and electronic records.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and school personnel.

  • Ability to report to supervisor and perform related tasks and duties as required.

  • Position requires the ability to work occasional scheduled or short notice overtime and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises by responding to after-hours emergencies, which may include weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma/GED AND one year work experience in electrical trade or Technical Trade Diploma (Electrical Systems Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Systems Technology or HVAC) or equivalent education and trade work experience.

  • Desirable: Applicable Technical Trade Diploma AND one year trade work experience.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.

Pay Grade Skill & Trade LC - $2,958.12 Monthly Salary - Full Time Position
