Summary

Implements and coordinates the installation and energization of high voltage equipment associated with the corporation and its customers

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and distributes electric substation operating orders, line operating orders, general orders and guidelines for all electric substations and lines.

  • Provides technical support and operational data to various operating, planning, and

engineering groups to assist in the planning, installation, and operation of new equipment additions to the electric system with emphasis on future operational needs, system reliability, and safe switching practices.

  • Originates, distributes, and maintains single line diagrams for all electric substations and operating switching maps for all transmission lines.

  • Creates, provides, and maintains numerous technical information data bases associated with system operations and functions for and to all corporate electric operating and engineering groups.

  • Assigns equipment and line designations in and for electric substations, line switch, new and existing lines, and addresses special operating conditions within these areas.

  • Monitors current electric system operating conditions using Energy Management Systems and other computer data based systems, as they become available, for abnormalities affecting or having the potential to affect safety and/or system reliability.

  • Works with Dispatcher -Operators and other operating groups to resolve these issues.

  • Conducts frequent field inspections of construction sites to keep abreast of construction progress and maintains close affiliation with all field operating personnel.

  • Provides guidance to Dispatcher-Operators, addressing and resolving routine and

emergency substation and line switching, electric system restoration, and outage evaluation issues.

  • Meets frequently with Planning, Engineering, Substation, Construction, Technical Service, Local Operating personnel, and customer groups to address current and future operational and construction issues.

  • Is available to assist in the storm restoration process where needed.

Required Qualifications for Position

Engineer II

  • 2-4 years of electric utility experience and a graduate from a four year ABET accredited program with a Bachelor of Science in EE, EET, or ECET.

  • All of the qualifications for Engineer I including:

  • Increased understanding of basic engineering/technical theories and principles.

  • Ability to perform duties with some supervision

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management

  • Experience in the electric utility industry

  • Working knowledge of operations support systems, Cascade, iTOA, EMS, Maximo, Work Management, GIS, CIS, NMS, CYME

  • Sr. Engineer/Specialist ($107,000-$160,500)

$77,400.00 - $160,500.00
