As the Electric Motor Controls Center of Excellence (CoE) Lead you will have the global responsibilities for FCA's motor controls product development and research for all electric vehicle platforms which include mHEV, HEV, PHEV and BEV. The Engineer must be a strong systems-focused team player with interdisciplinary experience/expertise, and willing to work in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading Critical Design Reviews of motor controls requirements, algorithms, and deliverables

  • Establishing and applying electric motor controls best practices from design to product launch, including supporting validation and testing

  • Creating, promoting, and implementing the FCA technology roadmap for motor controls for global electric vehicle programs

  • Developing/enhancing Dynamometer, Software-In the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-In the-Loop (HIL), and other motor control test platforms

  • Providing subject matter expertise, mentoring, and managing problem resolution teams

  • Working with FCA power electronics and electric motor Hardware Teams and Suppliers

  • Working with FCA cross-function/vehicle teams, suppliers, and universities to develop/implement advance technologies for next generation electric vehicle technologies

  • Maintaining relevant technical documents, best practice, and sign-off documents in collaboration with the global CoE organization

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program

  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electric motor control algorithm development, calibration, and validation

  • Experience with Dyno, SIL, HIL test platforms

  • Expertise in Model-Based Development and Embedded software development tools & processes

  • In-depth understanding in theory of AC Induction/PM motors controls for automotive applications

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and technical problem solving ability

  • Highly rated for leadership and teamwork

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong interest in the automotive industry and electrified powertrain systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • In-depth understanding of Power Electronics and Electric Motor Hardware Design

  • Understanding of electrified vehicle fundamentals

  • Experience with Freescale/TriCore/DSP 32-bit processors

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Knowledge in DFMEA and DFFS methodologies

  • Ability to travel 5-10% internationally

The E-Motors Center of Excellence (CoE) Lead's responsibilities include but are not limited for components in scope - Critical Design Review of electric machines at each development phase, guide the Design and Release process of electric machines, apply best practice and lessons learned from design to launch of electric machines, support validation and testing plan/process of electric machines. The CoE Lead will help creating, promoting, and implementing the FCA technology roadmap for electric machines. The CoE Lead will perform advance design reviews and component / system approval of electric machines during all development phases. The CoE Lead will manage problem resolution teams, and lead development of dyno facilities related components/subsystem development. The Lead's responsibilities will include working with FCA E-Motor's Design Release Engineers (DREs) / Electromagnetic Design Engineers (EMs), FCA cross-function / vehicle teams, suppliers, and universities to develop/implement advance technologies. The CoE Lead will also maintain relevant technical documents, best practice, and sign-off documents in collaboration with the global CoE organization. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program * Minimum of 10 years of overall electric motor engineering experience * Minimum of 3 years of experience in e-motors design and/or development role * Must have a good understanding of e-motor hardware and system functions * Extensive experience with e-motor subcomponents; bearing, insulation paper, varnish, magnets, magnet wires, lamination, connecting ring, bus bars, shaft, cooling ports, position sensor, temperature sensor, lead wires * Thorough understanding of e-motors' component development process from concept thru launch * Highly rated for leadership and teamwork * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Strong interest in the automotive industry and electrified powertrain systems Preferred Qualifications: * Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university * Experience with control of electric machines * Experience with power electronics for electrified powertrain systems * Experience with testing and calibration of electric machines Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Auburn Hills MI
