Introduction

To evaluate, design, estimate, and project manage the maintenance and construction of electric distribution systems. Design and manage all projects in accordance with applicable requirements, standards and codes, ensuring safe, reliable service to customers in an efficient, economical manner. Prepare detailed drawings, permits, easements, material estimates and reservations, and all other documents required for project completion. Communicate effectively with all major stakeholders including Operations, Engineering Records, Electric System Planning, Budget Analysts and customers.

Qualifications

This position will be filled as an Engineer or Specialist depending on degree and experience.

Engineer I / Specialist I

  • Graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR Engineering Technology

  • Understanding of basic engineering/technical theories and principles

  • Understanding of basic practices of researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

  • Ability to read/interpret drawings/standards to analyze/solve problems

  • Knowledge of computer applications such as AutoCad

  • Knowledge of electric engineering

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Ability to perform duties under close supervision

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management

  • PMP Certification

  • Experience in the electric utility industry

Engineer II / Specialist II

  • 2 to 4 years of electric utility experience and a graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR Engineering Technology

  • All of the qualifications for Engineer I including:

  • Increased understanding of basic engineering/technical theories and principles.

  • Increased understanding of basic practices of researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

  • Ability to perform duties with some supervision

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management

  • PMP Certification

  • Experience in the electric utility industry

  • Working knowledge of operations support systems, i.e. Maximo, Work Management, GIS, CIS

Engineer III / Specialist III

  • 4 to 9 years of electric utility experience and a graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR Engineering Technology

  • All of the qualifications for Engineer II including

  • Proficient in engineering/technical theories and principles

  • Proficient in basic practices of researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

  • Proficient in dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

  • Proficient in written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficient in principles of project management

  • PMP Certification

  • Experience in the electric utility industry

  • Working knowledge of operations support systems, i.e. Maximo, Work Management, GIS, CIS

Senior Engineer / Senior Specialist

  • 7 to 12 years of electric utility experience and a graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR Engineering Technology

  • All of the qualifications for Engineer III including:

  • Skilled in engineering/technical theories and principles

  • Skilled in basic practices of researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

  • Skilled in dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

  • Skilled in written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to perform duties with increased latitude for un-reviewed work

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership

  • Skilled in principles of project management

  • PMP Certification

  • Experience in the electric utility industry

Responsibilities

Projects/External Customers

  • Promotes and assures safe working environment and public safety.

  • Manages capital and OM budgets while designing work.

  • Manages maintenance/system improvement projects to ensure timely completion of compliance and/or system related issues.

  • Manage customer requirements for electric service by meeting customer and project milestones within a timely manner.

  • Design/manage electric utility projects utilizing effective project management techniques.

  • Prepare/complete complex detailed CAD drawings, permits, easements, other relevant documents, and document projects in computerized systems, (CIS, Maximo, etc.) for each project.

  • Coordinate fieldwork on projects; provide engineering direction and synchronization with outside agencies, internal departments, and/or customer representatives.

  • Provide engineering solutions that effectively meet the needs of the customer and Company while still adhering to the financial goals of the Company and maintain projects within budgetary constraints.

  • Work a flexible schedule, including overtime, as needed to meet engineering needs.

Maintenance/Internal Customers

  • Provide NIPSCO departments with technical expertise to help solve operational problems.

  • Provide cost effective solutions and follow through to resolve requirements.

  • Provide support to Operations during gas and electric system interruptions and outages, including storm restoration.

  • Evaluate electric system performance, analysis of weaknesses, and provide solutions for improvement as needed

Business/Compliance

  • Complete Learning Management System (LMS) Modules prior to due date

  • Comply with all Safety Standards and Practices

  • Monitor Hold/In-Service/Supplemental Reports and address items in a timely manner

  • Attend yearly Peer Review meetings to forecast the following years budget

  • Submit timesheets and expense reports on their due date

  • Understand Incident Reporting Procedures

VIEW JOBS 10/9/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-07T00:00 Responsibilities Positions will be located in various locations throughout the NIPSCO service territory. * Ensures Power Delivery personnel performs safe work habits according to NIPSCOs Safety Manual. * Responsible for conducting field job observations and mitigating at risk findings. * Directs and manages the day to day operations of the LOA with specific emphasis on customer satisfaction, timely restoration, maximizing efficiency, and environmental compliance. * Maintain distribution and transmission electric system reliability through maintenance and proper operation of equipment in accordance with Dispatching and NIPSCOs General Orders. * Provide coordination, facilitation and direction in a 24/7 operation which includes participating in a weekly Standby rotation. * Communicate openly, clearly and often with direct reports, partners, and customers. * Responsible for directing their teams to meet CAIDI, ETR, and customer commitment goals. * Review and interpret engineering drawings and coordinate field changes to NIPSCOs Standards. * Inspect job sites prior to work assignments, coordinates material and equipment availability for crews and worksite needs with customer. * Complete and submit a proper Request for Clearance in accordance with NIPSCOs General Orders. * Coaches line crews daily for proper work performance with respect to safety, productivity, and quality to meet and exceed customer satisfaction. Administers corrective action according to the Employees Standards of Conduct. * Directs problem solving in the field with respect to system operational difficulties. * Ensure all time sheets, vacation schedules, and expense accounts within the area of responsibility are accurately completed and submitted timely. * Responsible for evaluating the apprentices performance according to the Lineman Apprenticeship guidelines. * Periodically assumes duties of the Superintendent. * Participates and completes all compliance training in a timely manner. * Participates and occasionally may lead local Safety meetings. * Conducts incident investigations and provides preliminary results and recommendations. * Responsible for the administration of the collective bargaining unit agreements and grievance procedure. Qualifications * Ability to coach and develop employees. * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. * Ability to use PC and associated software and applications. * Interpersonal skills to interact with customers and employees. * Minimum of a two-year technical degree or two years of electric utility experience, preferred distribution and transmission line experience. * A strong business sense of the current economic environment and the desire / dedication to be competitive. * Excellent written/verbal communication skills to communicate openly, clearly and frequently. * Ability to encourage teamwork, participation and individual accountability to achieve high expectations. * Ability to document / evaluate employee performance, overtime administration, time keeping requirements, and enforce company policies. * Ability to effectively handle disputes, research and conducts grievance hearings, interpret apply company / union contract. * Assure personnel employ safe work methods and that personal protective equipment is used. * Control budget expenditures set by the Superintendent.
