Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree in criminal justice or law enforcement plus four years of experience in investigations while being employed as a commissioned law enforcement officer.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Additional years of experience in investigations while being employed as a commissioned law enforcement officer will substitute for the required college training on the basis of thirty semester hours of college for one year of experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

A drug screen will be administered prior to employment.

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.

Must be P.O.S.T. (Police Officer Standards & Training) firearms certified.

NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Differs from Elections Compliance Unit Officer 3 by being responsible for the overall objectives of the Compliance Unit.

Examples of Work

Directs investigations into election related violations of Louisiana Criminal Law and/or violations of the Louisiana Election Code.

Prepares annual budget for the Compliance Unit and directs expenditures.

Gathers physical and circumstantial evidence, prepares warrants, and effects arrests.

Locates and interviews witnesses and testifies in court.

Conducts physical surveillance.

Prepares necessary reports on investigations.

Receives sworn statements.
