The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker

  • Signature Verification Office Assistantto assist in the upcoming November 5, 2024 Presidential General Election. This is an excellent nonpartisan opportunity to be involved in the election process!

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for temporary, full-time positions to be hired into our Signature Verification Unit. This position encompasses:

Clerical Support:

  • Data Entry.

  • Preparing, Mailing, and Receiving Cure Letter Forms.

  • Outreach to challenged voters via phone and email.

Signature Verification:

  • Review and Compare signatures on Vote-by-Mail ballots we receive.

  • Follow established procedures and guidelines for Signature Verification.

  • Identify any discrepancies in signatures and submit them for further review.

  • Coordinate with team members to ensure timely and accurate verification of signatures.

The hourly wage for this position starts at $25.99. Overtime is expected.

NOTE:This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week.

Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

Qualifications

Ideal Signature Verification Office Assistants will have a minimum of one year of general clerical, office assistant, phone services, or computer experience. At least one election cycles worth of experience in Vote-By-Mail is preferred as well.

Critical Skills include the ability to stay on task, accurately review large quantities of signatures, maintain accurate records and logs of voter outreach, and understand and carry out oral and written directions. As an Office Assistantit is also integral to have a positive attitude and demonstrate good leadership to assist other members of the team and help ensure day to day operations run smoothly.

Office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. These positions may require weekend and evening work assignments. The selected individuals must be available for the entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.
