Job Summary: Responsible for acquiring and processing for interpretation ECG's throughout the hospital as appropriate in response to routine and stat orders; to respond as member of Code Blue team for medical emergencies; to perform additional duties such as rhythm strips and signal averaging, hooking up and/or unhooking Holter Monitor studies.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Work Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience inclusive of prior ECG training or completion of technical course preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic computer skills. Ability to work well with others and ability to treat pediatric and adult patients from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Acquiring ECGs in response to routine or stat orders for adult and pediatric patients with proper technique and documentation.
Reviews ECG workflow and work list to follow through on studies not yet acquired and processing incomplete in order to finalize paperwork. Responding as part of the Code Blue Team for running rhythm strips and ECGs for adult and pediatric patients. Providing Holter Monitor hookup or unhook.
Processes all acquired ECGs from NICS staff, those acquired in other departments such as TEC, Pre Op Clinic, Laureate and other remote sites as appropriate and designated by department manager/director. Cleans and maintains ECG equipment, restocking ECG carts, reporting supply needs to appropriate NICS staff responsible for that duty. Coordinates ECGs to be read with physicians available.
Proofreads ECGs prior to and after physician interpretation to complete processing in Muse and patient chart (i.e. Ulticare). During ECG study, demonstrates ability to recognize a patient that needs immediate medical attention and notifies nursing staff. Performs other duties as requested inclusive of providing Pacemaker teaching and/or performing telephonic Pacemaker checks.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers.
