Technology Subject Matter Experts (SME's) use expertise and leadership gained through years of experience to deliver improvement within the manufacturing system. The duties vary widely between practicing safety leadership, troubleshooting, deliberate improvement projects, capital projects, equipment and process studies and audits.

The Construction Services group is part of the Technology Capital COE. The group supports the capital project delivery process (PDP) by focusing on constructability and construction. The Electrical Construction SME will be involved in multiple aspects of focus projects such as the implementation plan, constructability plan, contracting strategy, contractor selection, schedule development and risk assessment.

For all SME's, a key component of a Subject Matter Expert's job is to transfer knowledge and skills to capital project management and mill personnel to build on-site capability.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Electrical Construction position is accountable for delivering results on a wide range of projects, short and long-term, across our global capital system.

  • The SME must work well with varied teams and be able to quickly engage employees from all levels of the organization from executive to the shop floor, as well as influence vendors and contractors. Key customers are our primary manufacturing facilities.

  • Key interfaces are fellow Capital COE members, Technology Reliability SMEs, Mill Capital Engineering Managers / Engineers, Mill Maintenance & Engineering Managers and Regional Engineering resources.

Scope:

This position functions as a construction expert in support of development and execution of capital projects anywhere in the company. The duties include but are not limited to the following:

Project Development

  • Drive Improvement in project development for contracted labor productivity and quality.

  • Drive efficiency improvements through constructability input in engineering

  • Provide input to analyze contracted labor hours required for project estimates.

Project Execution

  • Contribute to, and deliver improving safety results

  • Rapidly and accurately diagnose and resolve construction issues, either onsite and or remotely

  • Ensure construction deliverables are achieved through progress tracking of man-hours and quantities

Other

  • Ability to interface with and technically develop and mentor others within the area of expertise

  • Ability to drive results and self-manage priorities on multiple simultaneous projects

Functional / Technical Competencies

  • Advising project teams on constructability of capital projects during engineering development..

  • Assembling, installing, testing and commissioning the electrical power distribution, electric and electronic wiring of heavy industrial process equipment and instrumentation.

  • Pneumatic tubing systems for instrument systems or control valves

  • Codes requirements including but not limited to NEC, NFPA and IP Guidelines and Specifications

  • QA/QC and testing procedures for all electric and instrument system installation.

  • Labor productivity requirements to efficiently install Electrical or Instrument systems.

  • Labor staffing and man-hour requirement to efficiently complete Electrical or Instrument wiring systems

  • Has overall capability to assess constructability and lead construction phases of a capital project. Sizes of potential projects could vary from $10MM to $100MM+.

  • Works directly with contracted engineering and construction resources in the range of 100 to 1000 people depending on the project size

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 10 to 20 years' experience in heavy industrial Electrical and Instrumentation construction or maintenance.

  • Supervisory or management experience in electrical or instrumentation construction.

  • Must possess and demonstrate capabilities and skills in leadership, organizational design and organizational development, communication, directing others, decision quality, negotiations, team building, and conflict management.

The Capital COE Health & Safety SME role is a key position in the Technology Capital COE focusing on safety, specific to capital projects led by Capital COE project managers and as needed on mill led projects US and global. The successful candidate must have extensive experience in capital execution, construction, OSHA/Regional regulatory requirements, OSHA/Regional emphasis initiatives, and be capable of developing a working knowledge of International Paper's safety performance standards. The incumbent will work directly with Capital COE leaders, Capital project teams, mill management teams and the Corporate health and Safety leaders to ensure effective and sustainable implementation of health and safety programs and practices at assigned projects and facilities. Minimum Qualifications: * 10-20 years' experience in health and safety management of capital project construction or maintenance in heavy industrial fields. * Must possess and demonstrate capabilities and skills in leadership, organizational design and organizational development, communication, directing others, decision quality, negotiations, team building, and conflict management. * An appropriate professional certification or equivalent (CSP, CIH), Advanced degree is preferable such as BS or occupational health and safety, or other related course of study. * Strong written & verbal communication skills; presentation and training delivery skills. * Expert knowledge of OSHA regulations. * Ability to travel significant portion of time * Owning, developing, enhancing and communicating COE policy and procedures * Create and develop a common platform for house the procedure * Create gaps * Create and execute routine communication platform Work Environment: * Capable of attaining a working knowledge of local practices, codes, and culture is critical to success. This position must possess the capability of aligning diverse groups towards successful achievement of the project goals. * Must demonstrate the flexibility for extended travel and non-routine business hours in successful execution of their duties. * Must be capable of effectively performing duties in a dynamic and constantly changing environment * This position will require extensive travel to mill sites across North America but does not preclude travel to international sites.
