Major Position Responsibilities

This position will be located at the new GD-OTS facility located in Mesquite, TX.

SUMMARY: Designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization's environmental, health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with regulations. Responsibilities are within the Environmental Health and Safety Function as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.

  • Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly.

  • Performs experiments and reports findings on environmental consequences of equipment, tools, and procedures.

  • May also design, install, operate and maintain measuring apparatus to determine the level of pollutants involving air, land, and water.

  • Identifies, assesses and resolves problems concerning the environment.

  • Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental policy and procedure manuals.

  • Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.

  • Requires basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process.

  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines.

Basic Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 3-5 years of experience OR Equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

  • Preferred: Associate's Degree

  • Discpline/Major: Technical training preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Environmental compliance

  • Safety best practices

  • Safety communications

  • Safety inspections

  • Safety training

  • Safety policies and procedures

  • Inspection documentation

Preferred for Mesquite:

  • Experience with start ups, such as project planning, and establishing business processes, management systems, and work instructions is desired. This is an exciting opportunity to create the business processes, systems, and culture to stand up a high performing manufacturing operation.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

  • Requires regular movement throughout the GD-OTS facilities.

  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

Travel Requirements

  • No or very little travel likely
