Shockwave Medical, Inc. is a pioneer in the development and commercialization of Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) to treat complex calcified cardiovascular disease. The EH&S Specialist will have responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining EHS programs and topics throughout the organization. The EHS Specialist will create the procedures and processes necessary to ensure the overall health and safety of Shockwave Medical employees and the environment.
Specifically, the EHS Specialist will be responsible for implementing the company's health & safety programs as well as adherence to state and federal health/safety regulations. This will include developing written programs & employee safety training programs as well as scheduling and conducting the training, leading and/or participating in safety meetings and the development of EHS policies as needed. He/she will ensure compliance to all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
A successful candidate will have prior experience in an EHS capacity in the manufacturing of medical devices, semiconductor or other complex capital equipment.

Proactively take ownership of any EHS-related issues, concerns, improvements and program development across the organization.
Assist in evaluating new manufacturing processes and technologies and make recommendations on employee safety, potential environmental requirements and applicable building impacts.
Partner with functional areas to implement methods, programs, controls and safeguards which promote a safe work environment.
Lead, support and manage implementation of EHS programs (e.g. lockout / tag-out, electrical safety, ergonomics, respiratory protection, industrial hygiene, contractor safety, inspections, risk assessments).
Provide technical expertise and guidance to solve EHS related challenges and reduce risk during activities such as handling chemicals and hazardous waste, working with electrical equipment, working in confined spaces, etc.
Partner with business groups to engage all employees in safety and sustainability programs.
Perform EHS assessments for new processes and equipment that include risk assessments, confined space, lockout/tagout, ergonomics and machine guarding.
Lead and manage EHS risk assessments for all parts of the business.
Promote, reinforce and sustain a strong safety culture through engagement with leadership and operational teams.
Chair site Safety Committee, Emergency Response Team, and Operational Excellence activities.
Investigate hazards, near misses and incidents with the goal of finding root causes and implementing ways to prevent recurrence.
Lead in-house emergency response activities (incident command, equipment, training, drills).
Interface with regulatory agencies on assigned EHS matters.
Minimum of BS Degree in Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering.
Professional Safety Certification preferred (ASP, CSP, LSO, CEP, CIH, CHMM, etc.)
A minimum of 5 years of experience, with the majority in a manufacturing environment.
A strong technical understanding of equipment and processes used in the life science industry and solid understanding of applying EHS regulations/standards/assessments at FDA regulated manufacturing environment.
Ability to support EHS programs in a fast paced, dynamic, cross functional and highly collaborative environment.
Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 45000 Management System, including developing work instructions, procedures and/or policies.
Experience on leading and maintaining compliance programs CalOSHA, CalEPA, and ergonomics risk reduction programs on manufacturing environments
Experience with managing EHS programs, interacting and training all levels of personnel is required.
Expert experience with site inspections, investigation methods and reporting of incidents.
Proven proficiency working with standard business software, including word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets
