Position Description
The EHS Specialist will provide full support to the operations team to ensure leadership and management of the safety program. To drive a consistent approach across all EHS activities on the Refresco jobsite. Driving forward the EHS management systems by influencing the management team, whilst working with the operations team to ensure compliance. To liaise with EHS Team to ensure consistency between sites.
Essential Functions
Technical support, advice and guidance to management on EHS legal compliance and best practices.
Driving the Plant Management Team to effectively implement the Safety Management System.
Leader of the yield/waste reduction plan on site with the production team.
Coordination of site EMS and Environmental Permit including:
Review environmental aspects and assisting with development of control measures
EMS & Permit documentation, control and records
Internal Audit Schedule, undertaking audits and aligning on timely corrective actions
Environmental performance reporting for Environmental Permit
Undertaking BAT reviews in conjunction with departments
Providing support to departments on risk assessment programs, EHS audit and inspection programs, development of EHS operating procedures, and incident investigations.
Management of EHS training programs, EHS audit schedules, EHS non-conformances and close out, & PPE
Manage waste management including "zero to landfill" ensuring that optimal revenue is obtained for all waste created:
Maintenance of Waste Stream Matrix
Duty of care records and audits
Liaison with waste management contractors
Equipment servicing and issues
Maintenance of EHS KPI data including but not limited to accident statistics, Environmental Permit Annual Returns, Environmental KPI's.
Liaison with People Department on Occupational Health matters.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager/director.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
Undergraduate Degree in Safety Management or related field (or equivalent experience) plus two (2) years management experience applying environmental, safety, wellness and programs required.
Sustainability project/initiative implementation of EHS programs experience required.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred.
Previous experience in the food and beverage manufacturing industry is a plus.
Certifications:
OSHA 511 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry
First Aid / CPR - American Red Cross
30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Course
Position-Specific Skills:
An effective understanding of manufacturing technology/process and the EHS risks associated with a fast-moving consumer goods company.
Ability to provide an education and training resource for all operators in key EHS tasks.
Ability to understand the principles and processes of effective communication/presentation and when/how to apply them in all aspects of the role.
Understands the principles of EHS auditing and how to conduct an incident investigation.
Understand how to collect and validate sufficient information on the effectiveness of EHS systems for recommendations.
