As Environmental, Health and Safety Manager at the following locations: Clark Plant and Mine, Fernley Plant and Mine, Hazen Mine, and "Popcorn" mine. This position involves the coordination of all aspects of the site EHS programs. Key elements of the program include the Air Operating Permits, Accident/Incident Investigations, annual MSHA and related EHS Training, Waste Management, Agency Reporting and Interface, and overall EHS Compliance Management oversight for the plant and the Lovelock and perlite mines. The EH&S Manager is responsible for compliance of safety, health and environmental programs, and coordination between operations, support groups, and senior leadership.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance at the site location.
Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to meet site safety standards.
Provide leadership for the site concerning the site safety culture, including any contractors working on site. Safety is always our highest priority
Provide strategic leadership and work with management on identified EHS issues/recommendations/opportunities to foster continuous improvement of EHS culture and performance.
Assist sites with the review and implementation of standardized US Silica EHS policies and procedures, including but not limited to Job Safety Analysis, Standards of Conduct, Incident/Accident investigation, ergonomics, HAZCOM.
Lead the safety and industrial hygiene programs. These activities involve facilitating EHS meetings and JSA reviews.
Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify causes and determine how to prevent reoccurrence. Compiles and completes all MSHA-required reports
Initiate workers' compensation reports and manage claims through claim closure
Participate in capital project reviews consistent with the level of environmental, industrial hygiene and safety expertise needed.
Support emergency response activities through the development of required drills and coordination of annual training.
Contribute and support the Exposure Reduction Process (ERP) within your assigned area of responsibility.
Maintain and monitor environmental compliance programs for the site while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of the programs.
Maintain and update primarily air, water, mining, and other environmental permits while providing support with all waste programs.
Work with the Regional EHS Managers to ensure all regulatory required reports with NDEP, EPA, and MSHA are filed timely.
Submit various agency and internal environmental reports.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
Bachelor's of Science degree (B. S.) from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
Eight to ten (8-10) years' related operations and production experience with increasingly responsible responsibility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in a mineral processing environment, preferred
Occupational Safety experience is a plus, MSHA preferred
Environmental and safety regulatory and technical expertise
Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
Ability to interact with community, elected officials and non-government organizations; as well as with state and federal regulatory agencies
Must be a self-starter and demonstrate strong sense of initiative; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong computer skills (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint).
Strong attention to quality and detail, and solid people-management skills.
