Primary Function
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will implement, oversee, and adapt policies and programs to improve the organization's environmental and safety performance, ensure it complies with current and future regulations and standards, and protect its reputation.
Responsibilities
Manage EHSS vendors, expenses and budget
Manage a team of 4 direct and 16 indirect reports
Represent facility on Global EHSS Council
Design, develop, implement and oversee organization's EHSS programs, procedures and systems
Research, evaluate and recommend changes to improve company EHSS performance.
Manage EHSS activities including EHSS performance, safety audits, investigations, preparing reports and recommendations, waste management programs, and managing relationships with community or environmental stakeholders.
Provide expertise and advice on EHS issues to area managers.
Direct management of worker's compensation claims.
Manage all federal, state and local environmental programs (Air, SPCC, Storm Water, etc.)
Serve as primary site contact for EHSS-related government agencies (OSHA, EPA, DOT)
Qualifications
Bachelor's in Occupational Health & Safety/ EHS or related field.
5+ years of related experience.
3-5 years supervision/leadership experience.
Lead EHSS projects that are organization-wide in scope.
Exceptional problem-solving skills.
Extensive experience with all applicable regulations including federal, state and local laws and standards. (US EPA, SSHA, DOT, OSHA, etc.)
Ability to interpret regulations to ensure compliance.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Strong presentation skills.
Full understanding of both safety and environmental aspects of job
Maintain awareness of projects among team members to ensure timely completion of work, adequate use of resources, and fulfillment of EHSS program requirements.
Build relationships across departments.
