Summary of Position

Responsible for the development and management of all facets of Miraca Life Sciences (MLS) Environmental, Health & Safety Department (EHS). Responsible for the administrative and budgetary aspects of EHS. Develop and implement strategies for the EHS division to provide a safe and fiscally responsible workplace. Work with department leadership to develop goals and objectives that relate to (MLS) strategic priorities. Demonstrate excellence in customer service and public relations to promote a positive image of MLS.

Key Job Elements

  • Management, oversight, and compliance responsibility for the EHS Program including, but not limited to, development and implementation of policies and procedures, maintaining regulatory compliance, monitoring programs and procedures.

  • Respond to EHS concerns raised by sites.

  • Interfaces with government agencies to maintain regulatory compliance (audits, reports, applications for permits, etc.)

  • Drives continuous improvement in EHS performance while maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, CAP, and all other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Utilizes behavior based safety strategies, and other contemporary processes to guide incident prevention efforts.

  • Defines and leads EHS improvement initiatives across the organization (ergonomics, industrial hygiene, engineering controls, PPE, waste management, etc.).

  • Responsible for the management of assigned Safety and Security staff, including, but not limited to, hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and to enhance operational success.

  • Actively coaches, develops, and provides feedback/actions to teammates.

  • Oversight management of Workers' Compensation, General Liability and Vehicle Accident claims. Ensure efficient documentation, submission and management of claims.

  • Monitor all workers' compensation, general liability and auto liability trending to promptly identify emerging issues, and initiate prompt corrective action. Analyze claims, loss and injury statistics and develop recommendations for reductions in claim losses. Prepare reports as needed.

  • Conduct periodic facility safety inspections and manage results to ensure compliance.

  • Sponsor Safety Committees, providing support and guidance by attending regular meetings, events and other communication tools.

  • Manage safety audits by external agencies and manage any findings through resolution.

  • In partnership with the Director of Safety and Security, improve and enhance Safety and Security customer service performance across the organization.

  • Provide strategic and long-range planning related to environmental, health, and safety goals and objectives.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Scope

Directly supervise assigned Safety and Security team members. Compile and provide EHS reports for management review.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years related to environmental, health, safety, and risk management work experience with OSHA and other safety regulatory agencies.

  • Professional certification(s) such as CSP, OHST or CIH required.

  • Practical skills and knowledge of safety rules and regulations and previous management of safety programs are required.

  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience required.

  • Computer proficiency is required.

  • Project management, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills, are required.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

The duties are representative of the essential functions of the position. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Must be able to lift or move up to 30 pounds of weight; reach, bend, kneel, climb, push, and pull; work in tight spaces. Work with a variety of tools and equipment.
