The EHS Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring and optimizing operational processes in the areas of environmental management, health protection and occupational safety. This position will be based in Novi, Mi.
The EH&S Manager will support other manufacturing facilities including: MI, CA, and NC. The EH&S Manager will conduct detailed investigations of existing and potential safety and health hazards and make recommendations for remedial and corrective measures. This role requires knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Objectives are achieved through collaboration with Corporate Safety Leadership, plant Operations Management, Human Resources Management, and appointed plant safety liaisons.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports all BMC manufacturing facilities with environmental health and safety initiatives
Evaluates the organization's current or proposed activities, operations, equipment, laboratories, facilities and processes to minimize their impact on the environment, and ensure alignment with corporate sustainability goals
Ensures all locations meet or exceed regulatory safety and environmental requirements.
Provide feedback to all levels of Management on safety and environmental KPI's.
Develops long and short-term health, safety and environmental strategies and objectives to meet future needs and growth opportunities of Region.
Develops and maintains health, safety and environmental programs, procedures and policies based on new and existing regulation as well as sound safety methodology
Participates in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of new programs and policies.
Develops and delivers necessary safety training for all locations in the Region in accordance with established law, regulation
Leads, manages, and monitors activities of site Health & Safety Committees in partnership with plant leadership
Acts as primary designate to respond to safety related issues and concerns raised by employees or management and creates plans to correct violations/hazards.
Conducts industrial hygiene monitoring and reports results accordingly / KPIs
Participates in management of Workers Compensation program including: receipt and review of incident reports, assist in accident investigations, track and analyze injury/incident data, maintain OSHA 301/300 log, participate in case management.
Serves as primary contact with, and liaison to, governmental and regulatory agencies, and 3rd party ISO 14001 audit firms.
Seeks out and corrects unsafe acts and hazardous conditions, ensuring all safety and non-safety plant rules and regulations are followed.
Ensures adherence to established quality, safety and housekeeping standards.
Reviews and adheres to all health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Bachelor Science in Environmental, Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related field
Minimum 5 years' experience in a EH&S management role in a manufacturing environment
Experienced thoroughly in corporate policies, workers compensation, OSHA, ADA and other relevant legislation
Experience with ISO management system principles
Ability to travel up to 50%+
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Master Science in Environmental, Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) certification
Fundamental knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen activities and Six Sigma processes
Familiarity with the plumbing industry and products
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships, while work collaboratively with cross-functional business teams
Demonstrated successful ability to organize and prioritize work to ensure timely deadlines
Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, independence and initiative without daily interaction with management
Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite
