Company Job Title: EHS Leader

Location: Berwick, PA

Department: Operations

Reports To: Vice President Components

FLSA Status: Full Time, Exempt

Summary: The EHS Leader is responsible planning, maintaining, and implementing an effective safety and loss prevention program for Wabtec Components (G & B) by providing leadership and coaching to the site through a proactive approach to health and safety in the workplace. Evaluate and maintain safety system, policies and procedures in accordance with Corporate EHS Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, communicate, and maintain safety and hazardous communication programs and systems. Oversee the effective operation and administration of these systems and programs to ensure a safe work environment and culture of zero accidents.

  • Lead the site's safety initiatives and maintain training programs to improve the quality of incident investigations.

  • Motivate the team to deliver on long term organizational strategy and short-term operational and budgetary requirements.

  • Conducts training of various safety related programs.

  • Maintain systems, procedures and processes that can be deployed to achieve an injury free workplace.

  • Identify root causes of near misses, first aids, injuries, and property damage to prevent future events of the same nature.

  • Deliver safety related communication, including signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

  • Reviews all correspondence required by regulatory agencies, including OSHA reporting requirements, and any environmental reporting.

  • Oversees the administration of workers compensation program including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time and cost control of workers compensation costs.

  • Maintain all required safety reporting through multiple online management systems.

  • Exhibit safe work habits adhering to all PPE and OSHA during times in the manufacturing area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by Management.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Bachelor's degree in EHS or Related field preferred. Candidates with 6-8 years' experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Prior Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement experience preferred.

  • Travel is minimum. Must have the ability to travel as needed to perform the basic duties associated with this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of governmental compliance including OSHA regulations, environmental compliance.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills required to include the ability to provide written and verbal instructions, compile and present business reports/correspondence and present information clearly.

  • Interpersonal and leadership skills, such as emotional competency, coaching, providing feedback, and the ability to coach and motivate employees.

  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient typing and computer skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications.

  • Employee is regularly required to speak and hear.

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk and use two hands.

  • Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasions.

  • Employee is regularly required to work in front of a computer for up to 8 hours a day.

  • Work hours may fluctuate based on demand.

  • Employee must have the ability to sit and stand and walk for extended periods of time and move around an environment that may require movement in small areas.

  • Employee is required to wear glasses when in a manufacturing area. Must have the ability to wear hearing protection when in production areas that require it.

  • Employee is required to be on site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.

  • The employee will work in a both a professional office environment and in the production area. There will be exposure to electronic office equipment as well as possible exposure to extreme cold or hot weather conditions while on production floor. May occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and loud noise while on the production floor.
