Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to join our Industrial Safety / Industrial Hygiene team in our Promontory, Utah offices.


Role description &

Responsibilities:

Performance of Safety Engineering and Industrial Hygiene functions associated with design, fabrication, and testing of materials/components used in the production of Aerospace hardware. At these facilities the selected individual will be involved in a wide array of energetic material manufacturing processes including solid rocket manufacturing, laboratories, research and development, and functional testing.

  • Perform Risk Analysis and oversee Change Control for Hazardous processes including Explosive Mfg Operations, High Energy radiography, and other PSM covered processes.

  • Ensure and audit compliance to explosive operation standards including grounding / ESD, Facility Siting, energetic waste, etc. in compliance to DoD4145.26M and other standards.

  • Promote and maintain a high level of safety consciousness among employees to instill a safety culture in the workforce

  • Work with internal and external customers including NASA, Navy, and others to ensure compliance to safety, health, and environmental federal, state, and local rules and regulations

  • Perform worksite audits, inspections and evaluations on the operating floor

  • Assist in design reviews for new and modified facilities, processes, equipment and tooling for safety-regulated compliance to help ensure the safety of the employees and the process

  • Provide written reports and documentation to management with recommendations to proactively eliminate or reduce workplace hazards. Assist in implementation of actions given

  • Provides guidance to operations, maintenance and manufacturing engineering groups on machine safety controls, guarding, and safe operating procedures.

  • Assist in accident/incident investigation to help determine root cause and corrective actions

  • Assist in safety related training courses. This may be preparation of web based training, or performing instructor led training

  • Perform monitoring for potential health hazards in the workplace including: Chemical, Particulate, Noise, Heat Stress, Ergonomic, etc. Perform Industrial Hygiene assessments for new chemicals (e.g., determine appropriate precautions and PPE requirements, etc.)

Assist in authoring and classifying chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to meet the requirements of the new OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, including elements of the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS)

Education/Certifications/Experience

  • BS in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a technical field

  • 2 years' experience with a BS

  • Position can be filled one level higher, BS with 5 years or MS with 3 years

  • Technical Skills:
    Microsoft Office proficiency required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft SharePoint is a plus

  • Excellent mathematical, problem solving, written and verbal communications skills

  • Experience in a Safety position within a manufacturing environment highly preferred

  • Ability to work occasional night shift

  • Must be a US Citizen or Person

Northrop Grumman's Propulsions Systems is currently seeking a Principal Structural Engineer in our Loads and Environments team in our Promontory, UT offices. Role description & Responsibilities: The Principal Structural Engineer is responsible for the development and communication of structural loads and environments to support launch vehicle design and testing: * Generation of structural loads for launch vehicles * Generation of loads and environments (shock, vibration and acoustics) for use by system/component designers and analysts * Develop dynamic structural models for system/component assessment * Develop shock and vibration structural environments * Support testing of components to structural environments (vibration, shock) * Analyze sub-scale, static-test and flight data to assess loads and environments and verify dynamic models * Prepare reports and memos documenting analysis activities and results * Prepare presentations summarizing analysis results for internal review boards and external customers * Interact with design and development teams (teams include specialists in Design, Quality, Safety, Structural,Thermal, Fluid, Materials, Test, Operations) to certify creative design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost, schedule) Experience Requirements: * Candidate must have a MS or PhD in Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering * MS and 3 years experience or PhD and 1 year experience. * Course work in Vibrations or System Dynamics * Experience Preferred: * Previous work experience, leadership and teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular). * Knowledgeable in loads generation, structural dynamics (shock, vibration and acoustics) and data (time-series) analysis. * Computer skills including MATLAB and NASTRAN. Skills & Qualifications: * Good presentation and writing/communication skills. * Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment. * Experience in developing and delivering presentations and leading small groups. * Experience in working in an autonomous work environment on complex projects. * Experience in working on engineering full life-cycle projects from project inception through launch. * Strong, proactive analytical problem-solving skills and ability to deal with ambiguity * Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team * Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills * Assertive and proactive approach for collaboration and team work * Able to see how the system works (big picture) while working on individual components (details) Education/Certifications * MS and 3 years experience or PhD and 1 year experience. * Degree in Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering required.
