Job Duties

The successful candidate will conduct administrative investigations regarding alleged violations of state and federal civil rights laws. The investigation process includes interviewing the parties and witnesses, collecting and reviewing relevant documents, mediating the claims, and possible site visits.

The successful candidate will prepare written reports summarizing and analyzing the evidence collected in the investigation and prepare a draft analysis of whether there is reason to believe that discrimination may have occurred. The candidate will also prepare written conciliation agreements, maintain case information in databases, and communicate effectively with parties, witnesses, attorneys, and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of state and federal civil rights laws, including the Virginia Human Rights Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and the Virginia Public Integrity in Law Enforcement Act.

  • The position requires exceptional analytical as well as written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in time management and meeting deadlines, the ability to manage a diverse and challenging caseload, and the flexibility to work both independently and as a team member.

  • Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision.

Additional Considerations

  • A minimum of four (4) years of investigatory experience is preferred.

  • Experience in law enforcement investigations is a plus.
