The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

HJF is seeking an Educator III (Professor) to serve in teaching, research, and service roles. The Educator III serves as a full Professor to support the educational mission in the Department of Health Professions Education at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, School of Medicine, including operational requirements in oversight and management of three primary areas: the Graduate Programs (Masters and PhD programs) in Health Professions Education (HPE); the Long-Term Career Outcome Study (LTCOS), which comprises a group of senior investigators and deans at our institution ; and educational research studies that pertain to these areas and that span the UME and GME continua.The Educator will serve as a core faculty member, and as such, is responsible for research , development , and administrative duties in conjunction with undergraduate and graduate medical education, curriculum design, and other related initiatives of the Department of Health Professions Education. This position will place emphasis on advising research projects of MHPE and PhD in HPE learners as well as teaching courses in the Graduate Programs in HPE. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Director, Graduate Programs in HPE.The Educator will be expected to teach courses, serve as an academic advisor, advise the research projects for Masters and PhD learners, and pursue a program of research as well as related duties. It is expected that the candidate will also prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and develop presentations for scholarly conferences from the research data generated from the projects(s) consistent with academic rank. The candidate will also serve on academic committees as well as other service assignments.The Educator is expected to work independently and with minimal direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Full Professor in the Department of Health Professions Education, and as such, is responsible for teaching, research , and administrative duties. Mentors and advises HPE learners on a variety of research projects that are expected to result in peer-reviewed publications Teaches graduate students in HPE, leads curriculum design and development efforts for the Graduate Programs in HPE, conducts a program of research relevant to HPE and participates in professional , university , and departmental service activities.

  • Conducts own program(s) of research resulting in peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and grants. Prepares, writes, and edits texts, articles, monographs, and other materials for use in the HPE courses of study and for research purposes.

  • Represents the University at national and international professional meetings and conferences and participates in meetings and panel discussions at other institutions. Represents HPE on national and international committees, editorial boards, and other scholarly outlets.

  • Determines educational program requirements, ascertains the availability of logistical support, and advocates verbally and in writing for needed resources.

  • Maintains professional contacts with other medical schools and professional organizations throughout the country to locate and exchange information of mutual interest.

  • Participates in the identification of national and international research, teaching, and leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Doctoral-level training in education, psychology, or a related field, to include training in research design, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis.

  • Knowledge of and experience with teaching content areas in field of specialization.

  • Familiarity with academic and research advising Master and PhD students.

  • Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently.

  • Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems.

  • Ability to coordinate multiple systems, projects, and programs at the same time.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to coordinate disparate groups of faculty and learners in meeting and working together.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree

  • Minimum of 9-10 years experience required
