Job Description Job Description Educational Specialist Reports To The educational specialist will report to the Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager. Job Overview As an Educational Specialist, you will facilitate learning in the classroom environment between youth ages 14-19 and police officers from different agencies and departments.
Our mission is to reduce the social distance between youth and law enforcement, teach crime prevention skills and build community through service-learning. The educational specialist will also assist in presenting/facilitating the TAPS Academy curriculum on a weekly basis. This is a 30 hours a week (Monday through Friday) during the hours of 8 am to 5 pm position during the school year: and an average of 20 hours a week during the summer.
Responsibilities and Duties The following are the responsibilities and duties of an Educational Specialist ● Ensure that the mission, vision, philosophy, and values of TAPS Academy are integrated in all classrooms, activiti:es and learning approaches. ● The Education Specialist is responsible for project activities that will take place at the office, the outreach sites, and classroom sites. ● Acts as support for students, officers, guests, and administrators. As well as assisting in planning, developing, and conducting of educational programming for students or the community. ● Responsibilities include delivery of educational services, guiding curriculum and program planning, development, and continued training, serves as a resource for the educational team and/or teaching staff. ● Assists in community outreach programs, as required. Qualifications ● Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required. ● Experience working with youth ages 14-19 preferred, but not required ● Self-motivated and self-directed individual with the ability to partner in a fast-paced environment while working on multiple projects both independently and on a team. ● Demonstrate the ability to build sound relationships with all youth/officers by providing open and honest communication in support of organizational values, maintaining trust and credibility resulting in bridging the gap between youth and law enforcement.
Must have reliable transportation. Pass a criminal background check. Must have great communication skills (oral, and written). Must be comfortable in a fast-paced active classroom environment of middle and high school students.
