JOB SUMMARY

The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition within the National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT) at the University of Connecticut seeks qualified applicants for an Educational Program Manager 1 position within the College of Engineering. The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition seeks to establish a long-term STEM pipeline program for naval related careers in Southeast New England. The program will engage STEM talent K-12 through graduate school in innovative naval-focused activities and hands-on projects through participation from the regional Navy community to provide early and frequent interaction and ultimately, retention of students from this community. Working under the direction of the Program Director, the successful candidate will provide supervision to existing program staff, financial management, and planning and administration, with significant program support to help administer the anticipated Advancing Naval Careers Through Higher Education Outreach and Research (ANCHOR) program at the University of Connecticut.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the day-to-day operation and administration of the program in accordance with program goals and objectives. Possesses accountability for program coordination and logistics.

  • Trains, supervises, evaluates, and coordinates the activities of program staff.

  • Oversees the planning and implementation of educational programs and activities and is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of program content.

  • Recruits qualified students or participants into the program through promotional activities and contact with the target population; assesses the educational needs of the target population and recommends courses of action to meet those needs.

  • Serves as a resource and specialist to students, staff, faculty, and others on matters relating to program policies, procedures, and activities.

  • Serves as a liaison/point-of-contact between the Navy STEM Coalition program leaders and staff at the University of Connecticut, the University of Rhode Island, and NIUVT.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of academic program services and policies through the collection and analysis of program data. Develops policies and procedures and monitors compliance. Serves as a resource and specialist to students, staff, faculty, and others on matters relating to program policies, procedures, and activities.

  • Reviews records and data for accuracy, reconciles differences, and works with other staff and University offices to identify errors and make corrections.

  • Compiles data and prepares statistical reports used to monitor or assess program activities or project future needs.

  • Assists with ensuring compliance with established guidelines and budget limits.

  • Responds to and resolves a variety of program-related questions and issues.

  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and at least six years of related experience. Two years of experience must be serving as an advanced/senior team member or working as a project lead.

  • Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Self-starter with superior organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and follow through.

  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise analytical reports.

  • Experience interpreting and applying complex rules, policies, and regulations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage both interpersonal skills and marketing/information technologies to network with and engage internal and external stakeholders.

  • Willingness and ability to occasionally work outside of traditional hours, to accommodate scheduling requirements and programmatic objectives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree.

  • Experience with working with companies in the defense industry.

  • Experience working in a budgeting oversight/fiscal capacity.

  • Experience working within a university or higher education setting.

  • Experience working within, or writing about, STEM disciplines.

  • Hands-on experience with project management.

  • Experience working with external stakeholders to create partnerships.

This is a full-time, 12-month, annually renewable position based on performance and available funding.
