Job Description:
A paraeducator position is available at Horace W. Porter School to support students with special education needs. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to collaborate in multiple educational settings, work effectively with students with academic and behavioral needs, be flexible and maintain confidentiality, and show passion and enthusiasm for their assignment.
Experience working with a wide range of related service providers and support staff to meet the needs of diverse learners is preferred. Experience in DTI, behavior management, and inclusion is also preferred. PMT certified or the ability to become certified is required.
Paraeducator Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students/staff.
Possess the ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
Work with individuals and/or small groups of students to reinforce material introduced by the teacher and foster skills while encouraging independence.
Assists in providing modifications, adaptations and preparing materials for students.
Responds to students' needs in order to assist them to function successfully within the educational setting.
Establish a positive, appropriate rapport with students as socially and age appropriate.
May be required to assist with toileting, feeding, and any other health responsibilities.
Assist with loading and unloading of students onto vans, buses, taxis, etc.
Lift/restrain student when necessary.
Assist the teacher in implementing behavior programs.
Accompany student(s) into inclusive settings.
Assist in collecting and creating suitable materials for educational displays.
Aid the teacher in conducting lessons that require preparation of visual aids, operation of audiovisual equipment, and other equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
Understanding of basic principles of child development
Participate in Professional Development activities that are necessary for job performance related to specific student needs.
Be punctual and consistent in meeting daily time schedules throughout the school year.
Other duties assigned as needed.
