Job Description:
Samuel Staples Elementary School has several openings for special education paraeducators.
Available: Commencing with the 2024-2025 school year. Official start date will be August 27, 2024.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 6.25 hours per day when school is in session for students and one day prior to students returning to school after the summer break (181 days per school year)
Qualifications:
Must have two years of college credit; OR Associates Degree or higher; OR must provide evidence of having passed the State Board of Education adopted paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of those topics. (In Connecticut, the ParaPro Examination is the recognized assessment.)
Previous experience working with young children in a school setting a plus
Must be flexible, creative, have a good sense of humor, and demonstrate strong organizational skills
Must be highly motivated and self-directed
Salary and Benefits: Per collective bargaining unit agreement. Comprehensive benefits. Salary in range of $18.00/hour to $19.87/hour.
Responsibilities:
Assist student in one-to-one instruction and/or provide support for special education students in the general education classroom
Implement IEP goals as directed by the Special Education teacher
Collect data regarding student performance in the resource room and/or general education classroom
