The EOP Counselor will maintain a counseling relationship with program students
by providing individual and group counseling sessions relating to academic,
financial, career and personal counseling matters; submit periodic and semester
counseling reports as required by the Director; participate in the EOP orientation
program; maintain office hours; work with students in the pre-freshman summer
program; provide support to the EOP admissions process; maintain logs of daily
counseling activities; monitor filing of financial aid applications; and participate in
campus/community activities that involve EOP students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in counseling, college student personnel, or related field
required. Master's degree preferred.
One to two years of experience providing personal, academic, financial or
career counseling to students in a postsecondary setting.
Demonstrated ability to work with students from historically disadvantaged
and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Valid NYS Driver's License.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience as listed
above.
General knowledge of methods used in keeping financial accounts and
records.
Proficiency in current operating system used: Microsoft Office software,
particularly Outlook/Google, Word and Excel. Knowledge of Jenzabar EX is
a plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills as necessary for working with diverse groups
of people with varying backgrounds. Must communicate effectively with
staff, faculty, administrators, students, athletes, and parents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide one on one and/or group counseling to program students
Provide academic coaching, study skills and soft skill development to
program students
Academically advise and register program students
Provide financial counseling and guide students in maintaining satisfactory
academic progress.
Provide career and transfer advisement to program students
Participate in the EOP Orientation program
Work with students and participate in the pre-freshman summer program
Offer office hours for program students
Creates and conducts workshops for program students
Maintain logs of daily counseling, advising or coaching activities
Submit periodic or semester reports as required by the Director
Establishes and maintains records on student performance
Participates in campus/community activities that involve EOP students
Perform other duties that are consistent with the EOP Counselor position,
including participation on campus wide committees and attendance at
meetings
Additional hours will be required evenings and weekends in support of
special projects and events
Local travel required. Overnight travel may be required
Performs other duties as assigned by the EOP Director.
